Chances with ssat score!

I'm applying to Berkshire, deerfield, millbrook, and lawrenceville. I recieved my sat score and I got in the 65-80th score range. Will these scores hurt my chances at these schools?

I have no say, as I am new to these. But, another poster told me that they are not looking for well-rounded students, and I got a 94 (93 is a typo) SSAT average percentile. If you have extraordinary achievements for the other things, I suppose you could get in, but it will be difficult. What some people don’t realize is the fact that getting in is only the beginning. Staying in is also pretty important. I suppose it applies to myself also, but why spend so much time attempting to catch up when the true treasure lies in the learning environment? I have no say in your chances, but if GMT posts, trust him/her, as she posts candidly “mean” :stuck_out_tongue: things.

Thanks,
amilocated

Ouch! Am I really that mean?

In parentheses, so “no”? :D

I wanted to comment on even an “air quotes” characterization of GMT (or any other poster who gives candid assessments) as “mean”.

Everyone who is new this cycle should understand that parents like GMT and myself WANT kids to have successful outcomes. Speaking for myself, the comments/suggestions I make are based on experience shepherding one extremely high-performing child through the process with some success.

I do think (and this POV has been confirmed again this year) that many first-time applicants and their parents are seriously deluded about their chances for the super-selective schools — yet still tend to focus exclusively on those schools. I don’t think that bodes well for good news on M10.

I totally agree about the chances for the super select schools, but, to be fair, given that funny girl is only applying to 4 schools, she DOES have some range (although all are still fairly selective). She posted elsewhere that her overall SSAT scores were 80th percentile, so her list of schools is not ridiculous (the way, I agree, some applicants seem to be). It’s still only 4 schools, so there are no guarantees, but she doesn’t seem to be naively shooting for the moon (i.e., just HADES schools or only schools with SSAT averages well above her own). Again, no guarantees.

@Daykidmom: Agreed. I was commenting more on amilocated’s characterization of GMT’s comments/posts as “mean” than anything.

My post was riddled with sarcasm. I can’t comment on GMT’s “meanness”, but I know that his/her responses are completely flat-out true, but can be discouraging. GMT’s posts are very informative and I have nothing against that, really.

Well, those scores can’t help you, but they certainly won’t hurt you, either. As GMT says, go +/- 20 or so on those. Helps if you have other great parts on app.
