Last year I took the Lower Level SSAT with my school and got 99% in both verbal parts, and 85% in math. If that translates to the Upper Level, is that good enough for BS? I get straight As, in math as well, but you know, there are so many geniuses who get perfect math scores that even a few mistakes bring your percentile down. I wasn't too worried until I saw the scores of everyone on here-- it seems like everyone just gets perfect 99s! DOes anyone know the range of scores for Exeter, Andover, Choate, SPS and so on? Is 85 going to stop me for these schools? Thank you.

I think all of them pretty much want above 85 percentile but if there is another thing that stands out with you they will probably take you regardless. Most people though try to get into the high 90’s.

Obviously, that’s impossible, but for students who apply to Andover, the average overall score is the 93th percentile. Meaning about half of students scored below that.

I’ve been working on an SSAT book, and if I don’t get above 90 the first time I take the test,I’ll take it again. Thanks for the input!

That’s perfectly fine. Mpicz got in SPS with something in the 60’s while he sent apps to Andover, Exeter, Deerfield with something in the 90s i believe (SPS wasn’t updated/informed or something?) where he was WL/rejected. all the while, SPS was his top choice… :P

yeah, i’d aim for over 85 but once it reaches that point it just doesn’t matter anymore. i also know someone who got into exeter (from this forum, i believe) who got like, high 80/90s on 2 parts and something in the 40s for 1. hmm.

I had a 99% verbal, 85% Math, 98% reading. You’re fine.

oh good! that’s almost exactly what I had, Saer.:)

Dive: I was told the updating of my ssat didn’t make a difference as it was too late, but idk. 98 was my second score.

I love the SSAT vocab section, you can get 4 wrong or omit 5 and get an 800.

I know I took the practice test a few days ago and I got a 86% in verbal while omitting like 10 of the questions but all the rest I answered I got right

My first practice test (no studying) - 80% Reading , 60% Math , 60% Verbal
My second practice test (half way done studying) - 60% Reading , 86% Math , 86% Verbal
My third practice test (finished studying) - hopefully Ill get > 85% on all sections

Nice, first practice test no studying I got

800 V 792 M 750 R

Second practice test half way studying

800 V 800 M 775 R

Third practice test half way studying
800 V 800 M 800 R= 2400
But, I felt that the certain practice test on Kaplan was easier than it legitimately is.

Moreover, I don’t know if I can pull that off on real thing, my dad really wants me to get a 2400 though, (obviously).

I never knew that people actually studied for the ssat, not to mention taking numerous practice test. You guys are super intense, can’t wait to see how much you study for the sat’s.

I’m studying for the ssats but not intensely. I do a chapter in the Princeton Review about every 5 days and I made all the flashcards but I’ve yet to look at them.

Nobody legitimately studies for the SSATs, the only studying I did was Vocab words, since there is really nothing to learn from SSAT books.

I have a whole list of SSAT words from Barron’s I’m going to study from–hopefully I’ll complete the whole list!

There is nothing to study but read books and study words. Math=EASY!!!

Math was so easy last year–I completely crashed during the last few questions, though :/

I forgot to mention you also need to “study” for the essay.

How do you “study” for an essay?

Just practice writing essays?

Wouldn’t applying to a bunch of schools give you practice enough for the ssat essay?

^There’s a nice formula for the SSAT essays, unlike the school apps. Same goes for the SAT. You learn how to write with that formula.

And you’d be surprised how many kids study really hard for the SSAT.
