Chances ????

I have an unweighted GPA of 3.7385
7 Hon
4 Ap
4 yrs Football (Will Not Play In college)
2 Yrs Tennis
My app is in and the waiting is killing me.

Act 29

sounds like it would safety for you :) (assuming your a PA res.)

NJ Resident

eh not sure how PSU does Out of state applications...but your scores ar great, so assuming they dont have impossible standards for out of state, you probably have a good chance

Penn State acknowledged that they received my materials on October 15th. I have 1260 SAT's, unweighted GPA 3.4, weighted GPA 3.62. 3 AP's - 11 honors classes out of a total of 28 classes. What are my chances? I'm out of state. Said UP first choice - no summer - I have to work to afford!

They say they have rolling admissions - does this mean they have a set of objective standards and they measure your app against and you go in the accept/reject pile based on that?

Has anyone heard about acceptance for Fall 2006 at Univ. Park yet?

GGT- Penn State is a good match for you. Because your course selection is pretty good, I think you will most likely be accepted. I heard from Penn State on Saturday, around 9 days (or around 5 business days) after my application was complete. (I have 34 ACT, 3.6UW, 4.3W). Yours may be taking longer because your numbers make you borderline. They're probably carefully reviewing your courses, and possibly looking at ECs/essay

Thanks for the quick reply! Could you see on the website than an answer was coming? When I log in it just says there is no information. Did you have a lot of AP's and Honors? Did you get onto University Park campus?

When I log in and check my application status, it says a decision has been reached as of 11/2/05 and will be mailed to me. I had many APs and honors (8 APs, 1 post ap- mv calculus, and i dont feel like counting honors courses), and did get into university park.

Okay - thanks for the info and congrats! If you really are a chocolate lover - I assume you visit that other epicenter of Pa - Hershey - on a regular basis - maybe I'll see you at Penn State - who knows! Are you planning to accept? My first wish is to be a Terp - kinda a family tradition - but I loved Penn State - so its a toss up.

Chocolate do you think his numbers make him borderline becuz hes out of state?

because Im in state and my numbers are around his (3.5-700m, 600v) and ppl have been telling me its a safety (also I dont htink this makes a diff at PSU, but im a URM, African-American, as well)

GGT- Yes, I've been to Hershey. Great place! :) I do not know yet if I will accept- depends on honors program, money, and where else i get in. Good luck at both UMCP and PSU!

CH121S- I was commenting on GGT's chances, not Vodad's chances. You're scores are the same as Vodad, but you're GPA is lower. Because of your slightly higher scores and GPA than GGT, I'd say your chances are pretty high. I don't know how important state of residency is for penn state.

I think that even out of State , Vodad, those stats are good and you should get in no problem.

3.7 GPA- one AP, rest honors
54/256 rank
1150 SAT- 600 math 550 verbal
2 years of Crew
intermural basketball/baseball
various part-time jobs
in-state

I applied back in August and put Summer Session as my first choice. I was wondering what my chances would be. All my friends are getting them back and I'm getting really anxious. If anyone could shed light I would appreciate it.

I called today to be sure they had all my materials. The online check in says they have no info fo me - even though I have a log in id, etc. They said all my stuff is in and they are starting to send out acceptances - but they will go out gradually between now and January. They said the online checkin is a computer glitch.

Maybe you should give them a call and be sure they have your high school transcripts and SAT's etc - materials that were sent from other sources.

I think choc is right - I am borderline and they will fill a certain amount of slots with sure things before they start accepting people with my stats.

Good luck!

GGT

All of my friends that got theirs back so far applied Fall and Undecided and all got accepted.

What were their stats like? If you haven't already - you definitely need to call - something sounds off kilter. GGT

They were all 1200+ and 3.9 GPA+, really smart kids. My cousin had similar stuff to me last year and got his on November 17th. They have all of my stuff so I must be borderline, which I fully expected.

The number for the admissions office is 814-865-5471. I received an e-mail and then a letter telling me that they received my web application and at first, they said I needed to submit my high school transcript because my app beat the transcript there.

Yea I'm sure they have all of my stuff. I had it submitted in mid-August and made sure they got it.

Ah well - guess we play the waiting game! With summer as your first choice - you must have a great chance. Their web site says that for University Park, the class entering in 2005 had GPA's between 3.48 and 3.89 (mid 50) and SAT's between 1170-1340 (mid 50). Since they use GPA for 75% of the decision - and your SAT's aren't far off - you just have to believe there is good news coming until you hear otherwise. I will post when I hear anything from them to let you know from another borderline wannabe! Meanwhile, I'm looking through the common app schools - since I used the common app to apply to Villanova - to see if there are any safety schools which appeal to me. May visit Randolf Macon this weekend to check it out. Let me know when you get your news! GGT
