Chances?

So I'm really interested in applying to the BS/MD track. I just wanted to know what schools I should consider applying to and which I'd have a chance at getting into? I'm really interested in the UCSD med scholars, Brown, Rice and Northwestern Program but I also know that these are among the most difficult programs to get in to so I want to know how much of a chance I stand.

By the time I graduate high school, my gpa will probably be 3.95 UW/ 4.3 W (keep in mind my school allows us to take a maximum of 7 AP courses and I'll be taking 6)
SAT scores: Bio Subject Test: 710
SAT 1: 2210 - Math 690, Writing 800, Reading 720

Hopefully I will have good teacher recs and a great essay. But what would my chances be as of right now to get in to any, and particularly the ones I listed out, BS/MD programs?

Any and all feedback would be appreciated! Thanks! :)

anyone at all?

If you get the scores you hope for, you’ll definitely be competitive for programs with your ECs too. (You don’t have research or shadowing, but have leadership roles and volunteering) But those programs you listed have sub 5% acceptance rates sometimes, and chancing for them is basically impossible. But you should have a really great chance at less competitive programs, although nothing is really ever a guarantee.

For Brown and Rice programs (pretty much the most competitive) they’re looking for the kind of kid who founded charity organizations and did some major community activism and/or had an extensive medical exposure or something. My honest assessment is that you don’t have great chances at those programs, but you would have good chances at a variety of other programs like Penn State/Jefferson, Miami HPME, RPI, etc. I’m not sure how late it is for you, but try to squeeze in some research and shadowing if you can, to have the best chances. Meet your score goals and you might have an okay chance at the Northwestern program. If you’re willing to branch out to other programs, go for it otherwise just try your best with what you want.

i totally understand that research and shadowing is super helpful and will really teach me a lot and i’d love to do it - but i have no idea how to get such an opportunity. any tips guys?

For research and shadowing, you really need to be proactive. Some hospitals offer a shadowing program; if local ones don’t, just try emailing some doctors in specialties you might find interesting. For research, try a local university’s bio or chem department. Email different professors and see what they say.

Also, I’d like to refute a bit of what Breaker746 said about Brown PLME. I did not found a charity organization, nor did I have a huge extensive medical exposure. I just tried my hardest in high school and took opportunities where I could. Being proactive is the best thing you can do.

yes i’ll definitely consider emailing professors - i really hope some of them will respond and maybe even allow me to shadow or research with them considering i don’t know any of them. thank you so much for the advice. does anybody else have any advice and can anyone else chance me? let me know where i really stand?
