Chances

Now that I've been rejected by Stanford, what are my chances at UC Santa Barbara, Berkeley, Brandeis, Amherst, Pomona, Northwestern, Yale and Harvard.

SAT: 2220 (700M, 740V, 780W)
SAT II: 750 Math IIC, 740 Chemistry, 680 Literature (I think only Harvard needs the third one)
National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist
Rank: 17/787 in Southern California public school
GPA: 4.0 UW
IB Diploma Candidate

Extracurriculars: Editor-in-Chief of nationally-ranked student-run newspaper, copy editor for community college newspaper, concertmaster for local college's orchestra, vice president of Model UN club, secretary of academic decathlon team, vice president of Jewish youth group, junior varsity tennis, library volunteer

Work Experience: 3-4 nights a week writing for the sports page of my local newspaper

Awards: Winner of academic quiz bowl, Model UN award, finalist in local writing contest, AP scholar

I think that my chances are very low at Harvard and Yale, so I am really pulling for Northwestern now.

Thanks.

You'll definitely get in at Northwestern. You'll get in everwhere else except for harvard and yale. Those two are tough to say.

UCB: Match
UCSB: Safety

Northwestern is a very good shot. I's day no way to H and Y, 20% at Amherst, 30% at Pamona and in at the others.

Sweet!

Thanks everyone.

Yeah, I think Northwestern would love to see your leadership position in a recognized newspaper. Berkeley is a match with your stats and good EC's. UCSB, is super super safety. Did you get ELC? In So Cal you get UCI for ELC, so since your class rank is well into the ELC, then if you don't get in UCSB (same UC tier as UCI), it'll be crazy. Of course you should always have one super safety to avoid being empty handed.

Yes, I did get ELC.
