Chances

Hi I'm a junior, entering my senior year in high school. I was wondering if I have a chance at Penn State. My grades are slightly below the average grades required at Penn State.

Cumulative GPA: 3.38
SAT: 1670

E.C.-volunteer at library for past 3 years, selected in Executive Volunteer Association
founder of a club at my school
officer of a second club at our school
track and field athlete
in school band for 4 years now, entering wind ensemble as a bassoonist.

I appreciate the help.

I’m fairly close to you, I have a 1630 and 3.31, so its a reach for me based on grades/sat alone which in the majority of what penn state looks at.

Doubt you’ll get into UP with a 3.3. You would need a much better SAT score to counter the low GPA, and even then GPA is 2/3 of their decision.

I’m trying to calculate the GPA on my own, i don’t think the GPA I stated is weighted, however. With weighted, I’m hoping it should increase to at least 3.5

And thanks for the reply Dylan K :D

Yep im hoping i get in but it is for sure my reach school and maybe my courses and other STEM stuff will help out. My weighted gpa is 3.7

I don’t think you’ll get in unless you wow them with your application. My GPA was mediocre, probably worse than yours, but i got a 1990 on my SAT so i’m guessing GPA truly isn’t 2/3s of the conversation. You might get in to UP with the exception you have to do the summer session.
