I think I wrote excellent responses on the application's resume section and my essay was proofread several times by my IB English teacher (also head of English dept at my school) and I was very satisfied with the result. I submitted my application in early Oct.

Grandfather and uncle attended UF.

There are more awards and such that I've received over the past couple years but I posted what I believe to be my most significant achievements. Thanks CCers!

(So far I've been accepted to Stetson and FSU and now I'm just waiting for UF!!!)

By 27 credits do you mean you took 27 AP/DE courses or that the courses you took equate to 27 college credits? And is the 4.94 your UF GPA?

It equates to 27 college credits! Sorry for not being clear on that. And I haven’t calculated my UF GPA.

Ah, ok, that’s a lot more clear. I would suggest calculating your UF GPA so you can compare yours to last year’s freshman profile.

But…you know…there’s only five days until decision…Relax. Eat some Swedish Fish.

The close proximity is kind of what’s freaking me out! And I’ll get those Swedish Fish.

The GPA shouldn’t be too far off. I’ve been in the IB program all four years (pre-IB freshman and sophomore year) and I know that IB/AP/DE count toward your GPA whether or not they are electives.

If you got all As and took 21 AP/IB/DE credits, your GPA would be a 5. I don’t know what classes you took or what you got in them, but I do know the Pre-IB is equivalent to Pre-AP and Honors weight wise. Considering that your UW is a 3.5, it’s doesnt look like you got all As.

I have a 4.94 instead. I got lots of B’s freshman and sophomore year and I believe two C’s overall?

A 5 isn’t that hard to achieve. I went from a 4.54 to a 4.94 from the end of my junior year to now.

I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, and maybe there’s just left out information, but hypothetically if you took all IB classes your entire freshman, sophomore, and two classes your senior year, 10 DE classes your senior year, and only got two Cs and two Bs, you still wouldn’t have a 4.94. You’d have a 4.76 or something close to that.

To calculate you UF GPA, you take all your academic classes and add 4 for an A, 3 for a B, 2 for a C, and 1 for a D; add a +5 if the course is Pre-IB/Pre-AP/Honors course or +1 for AP/IB/DE.

I don’t know what or how many classes you’ve taken. You could’ve taken 52 for all I know. Just trying to clear stuff up.

If I could post a picture of my transcript on here to show you my GPA, I would. There shouldn’t be any debate about my GPA. It is a 4.94, no way around that. I really can’t believe you’d refute that, I’m no liar. It’s fine though, I still haven’t gotten any feedback on whether or not you (or anyone else) believe I have a shot at UF. Thanks anyway.

I have been in IB all four years. In addition to those classes, I have taken AP and DE classes. This year, I have a course load of 10 courses. I’ve had around this amount for the past three years because of online classes and recently, DE classes.

As you probably do not know, IB students can easily achieve much higher than a 5.0 because of the accumulation of our weighted GPAs.

No need to be defensive. Please reread my last post.

Ther was left out information. The fact that you were taking a large amount of extra courses.

I never called you a liar. You asked whether you had a chance. I asked for your UF GPA which you didn’t clarify.

I wouldn’t necessarily call this debating, but you asked for help.
No need to get offended, when I clearly was not trying to offend you.

As can early enrolled/dual enrollment/AP students. One quick question: Using the standard 4.0 scale (which UF does use), please explain to me how if the max weight to a course you can get is a 5, many students get higher than a 5? This is an honest question. Maybe you can clear up for me how IB works since I probably don’t know.

Could you chance me without a UF GPA or is that pretty much necessary to make a decision? Also, because of my heavy caseload, I haven’t taken many non-academic courses. IB takes up most of a student’s schedule. Taking that into account, my weighted GPA shouldn’t be far from my UF GPA. According to the UF GPA calculation you gave me, it’s the same as the calculation my school uses.

While the max weight you can receive is a 5, your GPA accumulates over the years - raising your GPA. The highest I have seen at my own school is a 5.7 but I have seen students on CC with even higher than that!

I think you have a great chance! The ACT score is the only thing bringing you down, but the rest of your application outshines that score, so it shouldn’t be that big a factor. Stay positive, I’m sure you’ll get in! UF isn’t too heavy on SAT/ACT as long as the rest of your application is intact and you seem like a well rounded student. I’m also waiting on UF so let’s hope we both get in  I have 1910 SAT and 3.8/4.7 GPA and was already accepted at FSU/UCF/UM. I think that just by your legacy, GPA and interest outside of the classroom you have a very good shot. Best of luck!

Thank you so much aares1!!! I have heard of many students getting in with their ECs so I’m hoping the same will happen for me. Your UW GPA and SAT score are awesome so I’m sure their adcomm will gawk at you haha!
