Chances

I just wanted to see what my chances were for getting accepted as I begin to plan my senior year.

Gender: Male
Race: White
Wealth: Poorer, qualifying for reduced lunches

Weighted GPA:4.65
Unweighted GPA:3.99
SAT:1340/1600 (670 M, 670 CR, 610 W)

Junior Year Schedule:
AP Euro
AP Stat
AP Comp
AP Micro
AP Macro
Honors Physics
Honors German
Honors Trig

Sophomore Year:
-Honors English
-Honors Algebra 2
-Honors Chem
-German 3
-AP Human Geo (5)

Extracurricular:
-Marching Band (4 years)
-Jazz Band (3 years)
-Volleyball (4 years-2 on varsity)
-Economics Challenge
-Academic Challenge
-Volunteering at community events such as duck derbies, fairs and packing lunches for poor inter city children

Accomplishments:
-State Champion marching band
-Championship winning jazz band
-County/2nd in state/national qualifying academic challenge team
-State qualifying econ challenge team, getting fifth in state and receiving a perfect score

With the end of junior year my stats have changed some, so I was curious if that may benefit me at all if I intend an econ major. My gpa as of now is a 4.81 weighted and 4.002 unweighted. I also finished AP Econ with an A+ overall. As for the sat, based on my latest scores, I have 710 CR, 690 Math and 610 Writing, giving me 1400/1600 and 2010/2400. I was just curious if perhaps now I may have better chances. Also, would my higher gpa also balance out my not so impressive sat?
Thank you

I’m curious as to why you referred to your SAT result as “not so impressive?” As you should know, your CR+M would place you within Trinity’s top 25th percentile.

Well they could always be better haha. Its mostly me just being too hard on myself and not as high as a few of my friends.

That clarified, @Windhunde, your chances are excellent. (The 4.002 UW GPA is a little hard to interpret; it sounds great, but it is not clear what it is out of.) If you are up for precalc or calc next year and have taken bio, all the better for you, as your transcipt will be really sharp.

If you may want to be an econ scholar some day, and are still gathering ideas for other colleges, this online list can be of value: “Economics Departments at Liberal Arts Colleges / Ideas.” Trinity places a highly respectable 17th, so no worries there.

I agree with merc81, your chances look pretty good so don’t stress about it!
Taking AP and honors courses in a wide range of courses fits the philosophy liberal arts colleges encourage. Also, you’ll be able to place out of some intro-level courses that people are fighting and staying on the waitlist to get into no matter what college you end up attending.

With that, keep those senior year grades up, good luck with your application materials, and keep challenging yourself with impressive courses and ECs (which also look super fun)! Good luck
