Chances??

Hi what are my chances of getting the Coca Cola Scholarship? I live in Tennessee and attend a blue ribbon academic high school. I have a cumulative 3.174 GPA. I am an Eagle Scout. I am a member of Beta Club and Teen Court. I have exactly 100 hours of Community Service. I ran Cross Country and Track 9th and 10th grade. Chances??? Thanks

Winners generally have thousands of hours of community service with high GPA and test scores, etc.

@Madison85 Thousands of service hours? Do you mean hundreds? That’s unrealistic.

@penngirlpending I was thinking the same thing because my school has a limit on how many community service hours you can earn per project. No one at my school has ever earned more than 700 hours of community service.

@sdsupride There was a post about a girl who won the scholarship and many others. Apparently she had 1,200 hrs under her belt, but I still think that’s unrealistic. I think these types of scholarships are aimed at people who don’t have sport commitments or take rigorous classes. No one at my school has ever had over 700 hours of service (there’s a bulletin each year that lists hours). Last year the most was around 400.

@CourtneyThurston

Does it take thousands of volunteer hours for this scholarship?

Usually. The average is 1200 per scholar.

“I think these types of scholarships are aimed at people who don’t have sport commitments or take rigorous classes.”

LOL no. More than half of my Coke scholar class played varsity sports. And most ended up at HYPSM schools: it takes tippy top stats to win. Gotta have the full package.

Not being mean but that alone will take you out of the running. Apply to less competitive scholarships.
