what are my chances at CMU??
gpa: 3.6
sat: 1250
took all SAT IIs in mid 600s on all
took all my schools HONORS and AP classes that they had to offer
moderate amount of extracurricular

ahh, all you've given is vague numbers which mean utterly nothing in the end, you didn't even say what school at CMU you where applying to.
Your scores are ok, you won't be rejected on the basis of your scores and course load, you won't be accepted on the basis of them either. What's going to matter is the things you can't tell us, thats what makes or breaks a college application.

wat cant i tell you?
for example?..

it matters what major you want to apply to. the acceptance policies vary by major. for any of the good ones at cmu, you have no shot.

What do you consider the good ones??? My D got into Mellon College of Science with similar stats. Don't dissuade Sexy. Go for it, SEXY!!!! Apply to several schools....they'll place you where they think you will fit..you can always transfer to another school if you like! GOOD LUCK!

The only school they really have a poor chance at is the school of computer science. Besides that, they have a decent shot based on those stats; don't dissuade people like that EasttoWest

What's your V, M?
Females have an advantage in CMU admissions.

Todd@, i am only being realistic. i go to cmu. do you??
in my opinion only business, cs, and engineering are worth anything
besides the drama and art programs which are based almost entirely on portfolio.
Thus, I will revise my statement.
If sexy is applying to the fine arts school, I hope he/she has a strong portfolio.
Otherwise, in my opinion, the good majors would be a reach and she could realistically get into a better school than cmu which is overrated in my opinion.

EasttoWest...check your private messages!

im applying to the college of humanities
psychology....
why?............

Even if you go to cmu, you shouldnt just flat out tell people they have "no shot." (in my opinion) It is kind of rude.. and I wasnt the only one that told you that you shouldnt dissuade ppl like sexy so easily.

wats a good school for psychology??

easttowest, im just curious, what are you majoring in and what makes you say cmu is overrated?

todd@, maybe you are just too sensitive. I should have told sexy that she has a great shot to build up her hopes, right?

Sexy, its more that you want to have no shot at cmu for psychology than that you actually have no shot. I bet you would get in for psychology. However, you will be an H&SS student. People in other majors call H&SS, "H and less stress." This is because the classes are easier. And not only are they easier, they are bad. There are horribly restrictive requirements and poor professors.

I myself am in the H&SS school, schiller. I was planning on majoring in creative writing (cmu has a specific program for this), however, I have decided not to waste my time at a school that is only interested in collecting my money while I sit through their lousy gen ed classes taught by grad students.

Sexy, do not come to Carnegie Mellon unless you are going into Engineering, CS, Business, or the Arts. It is a great school, just not for the social sciences. Don't make the same mistake that I did.

Todd@, I apologize for offending you. I hope you understand where I am coming from now.

What about Mellon College of Sciences???Nobody offers an opinion on this school. My D is in it and it is quite rigorous so I resent the fact that ONLY CIT. SCS, Business or the Arts are considered any good.

MCS is fine. it isnt the best program, but cmu is certainly a highly respected school and thus you should be proud. It is MUCH better than the humanities school in terms of gen ed and professors. I hope she is having a good time there. Don't be offended, MCS is good.
