I am currently finalizing a list of schools to apply to. I am starting my senior year at a competitive private high school in NJ. Currently have 3.5 unweighted GPA, 1400 SAT. Some honors and 1 AP class. Leaning towards being a math major but probably will apply undecided. Decent extracurriculars. Any thoughts on chances for the below:
- U of Miami
- Clemson
- U Florida
- Ohio State
- Va Tech
- NC State
- U Maryland
- Fla. State
- Pitt
Thanks for the help.
Chances are decent, but your UW GPA may hurt you at UF, UPitt, and VT.
Have your parents said that they’ll pay the high OOS rates for these schools (about $50k per year)?
Yes OOS tuition will be acceptable. Thanks for the reply.
OSU is holistic and looks like you would be getting quite a bit of merit aid, so that would seem to be a sign chances of acceptance are very high. When you are making the decision between schools, keep in mind that sometimes merit aid can be listed on resumes/cv under “awards and other honors” (ex. Such&such Scholar, So&So Fellow) you mention OOS is not an issue, but do keep in mind how these selections and honors may distinguish you in future prospects. If your cv doesn’t seem to reflect your decisions can be enticed by merit aid you may find it harder to get funding (and therefore placements) at the next level of education. Potential employers also look at this section to determine if you chose the university or it chose you (which infers you are top of the class). http://undergrad.osu.edu/cost-and-aid/merit-based-scholarships
Best of Luck!
Great information Buckeye. I will keep your advice in mind.
