Hmm.. your GPA and your SAT need major help right now. That's the one of the biggest thing they look at and both are pretty low... You need to AT LEAST up to 3.6 and your SAT AT LEAST up to 1900. Yes, it was your first time, so you still have time to work your butt off... Don't half ass it like me and the grade will still remain around the same area...

See if your GPAs are low because of your school's level of difficulty, then you need to show that you are still intelligent by your SAT scores...1700's way too low for USC and many other top level schools.. GPAs are harder to raise then SAT scores so i would focus on the SATs.

Though being a first generation college student will probably help you somehow... I also think you lack ECs... whatdo you want to major in anyhow? Good luck

Well I want to major in Political Science or International Relations. And yes, my school is very difficult. It's defintely the best school in the city and is a very prestigious school that prides itself on being academically superior to many other schools. Many graduates become famous(many Nobel Prize winers, Rhodes Scholars, CEOs and Founders of major corps...etc)

Then get that SAT score up so that they'll overlook the GPA. They're not going to be convinced by that SAT score.

3.2 is your unweighted, right?

Larationalist just pointed out once again what i said before. Most people I see in your case with low GPAs because of harder schools have 2000+ SAT scores... Work hard.

Yup. I just want to be sure that the 3.2 is unweighted... if that's the weighted GPA, I'm sorry but I just don't think it could happen.

with your GPA, you're going to need over a 2000 on the SAT.

You probably plan on doing this, but if I were you I'd study my brains out to have my first semester senior grades be as high as possible. Lower GPA's are more acceptable if you generally show a trend towards improvement. And as the others mentioned, you should really consider retaking your GPA. The rest of your stats look really good; great essays and recs won't hurt, either. Best of luck, and fight on!

retaking your SAT^^ i think retro meant

Thanks for pointing that out, tennisisfun1234. My bad :P

I also took the SAT II's:
*Spanish-760
*US Hist-660

Anyone else have advice?

Those scores are ok and the spanish one's pretty good...

Now I would take some math/science related SAT IIs... You should at least take math ic, i think.

bump (10 characters)

bump bump bump....will a 2100+ get me in and also straight A's first semester senior year

That would really improve your chances, yes.

Why don't you take the ACT test. Some find it easier than the SAT. Also, you get score choice on the ACT test results and so you could take them without any prep and see how you do. Good luck!!!!

Im really against the ACTs, the Science section sucks I heard but then again there are 4 sections and math wont count as bad against me.

My daughter found the ACT easier than the SAT. She thinks her high ACT score was one of the things that pushed her over the finish line with USC. Good luck!

There is no risk in trying the ACT. If you don't do well you don't need to send the scores. If you take it twice, you only need to send the scores that you want to be seen. Good luck during this stressful time.

thanks. I think I may take it next month just to see how it is.
