Chances???

Hi, I go to a top 10 HS in the US (specifically in VA), and compared to my sophomore classmates, I have very low stats.

Based on the following what are my odds of getting into:

  • San Jose State University (target)
  • Worcester Polytechnic Institute (reach)
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology (super reach, duh)
  • Carnegie Mellon University (reach)
  • Rochester Tech (target)
  • GMU (safety)
  • UVA (target)
  • VTech (target)
  • University of Pittsburg (safety)
  • College of William & Mary (target)
  • Penn State (target)

I really want to go to VTech or Penn State, but would be fine going to either of my safeties. My dream school is CMU, but that’s pretty unlikely I think.

GPA: 3.57 UW / 3.88 W
SAT: 1380 (750 Math / 630 R&W), will be retaking in junior year
ACT: Haven’t taken it yet
Subj SAT: Latin (630), retaking the Latin and doing Math 2 in June
//the school doesn’t calculate class rank

Awards:

  • recipient of a math scholarship ($250)
  • multiple Latin poetry and art awards
  • national piano awards (GUILD), national vocabulary bee finalist
  • math competition winner three years in a row (CML, VML, OML).

ECs:

  • Lincoln-Douglas Debate (JV, moving to V soon)
  • Marching Band (only in freshman year)
-110+ hours of volunteering at the library & summer camps
  • yearbook editor and writer,

In freshman year I got a B- and C in math (two semester classes), but this year I got a B and an A (two semester classes).
I’m taking two AP classes (AP Micro/Macro, APCS) and will be taking four AP exams in May (APCSP, APCSA, AP Micro, AP Macro).

Basically, what colleges should I apply to based on what’s happening in HS so far, and which colleges should I scrap?

San Jose State would be full pay as an OOS applicant so make sure your parents are willing to pay around $40K/year to attend before applying. If you are aiming for CS at SJSU, your GPA and test scores will not make the cut since CS is the most competitive major on campus. You would need around a 1500+ SAT with your current GPA to be competitive.

@Gumbymom thanks for the info! will be scrapping that from my list.
