Chances!

I've already submitted and completed my application...and now I'm anxiously waiting for their reply...So i'm wondering what my chances of getting in are. Here are my stats
GPA: 3.1(uw) 3.3(w)
SAT's:1240/1600 and 1870/2400

i've got average EC's.
i'm also in state...

so, what do you think my chances are? any input would be greatly appreciated!

Based on others I have known, I am sure you will get into a branch campus, but the Oakland campus might be questionable. Since they have rolling admissions, applying early will help you. Apply ASAP.

based upon the stats of college confidential members who applied to pitt last year, you look good. you should check out the stats profiles section on this web site.

there were several applicants who had similiar SAT and gpa'a that were granted admission. the pitt web site still has olod profile numbers (class of 2010), but you are in the mid 50% range.

applying early is key (or so they tell you in admissions). The only suggestion I would make is to make sure your senior schedule in high school looks strong. if you don't think its strong (i.e. a couple of AP classes if available in your high school), i would consider soeaking with your high school guidance counselor and possibly adding some more challenging classes.

I think Pitt likes to see that applicants are pushing themselves in their senior year of high school..

hope this helps.

Thanks ny dad. it does indeed help!

Man you should get in almost guaranteed. I know people in School of Engineering with similar stats. The avg for this year was 1250 or something...You are within one or two sds.

IMO, you stand a good chance of a branch campus; Oakland is getting more competitive. I think a lot will depend on your competition for a spot at the main campus which is attracting many well qualified candidates. Good luck!

You're on the bubble for Oakland, but definately in at the branch campuses. Would you consider one of them?

Early application is essential for your admission. Delaying your application could interfere with your acceptance to the Oakland campus.

I had the same GPA and slightly worse SATs. I was rejected. I'm in state as well.

UPitt as well as other state u's that have often been considered "safety" schools are no longer to be taken for granted. With increasing tuition costs for both instate and OOS, the state u's are becoming more competitive - and, frankly, have much more to offer, IMO.

did you send in an essay with your application? i'm starting to fill mine out right now. i'm pretty sure i'm sending one...i just need to pick one.
i don't think i'll be able to send my full application until school starts which stinks. i'm not even completley sure what my senior schedule is like. hopefully by the time i send i'll still have a good chance of getting in.
let us know when you're notified about their decision.

They dont read the essays anyway.

really? because i really dont want to write one. my mom is bascially forcing me to.

I wrote a pretty good essay that reflected more than my crappy gpa and sats showed. If they actually read it, I probably wouldve at least been waitlisted.

fishdontbite, they DO read the essay. But if you're stats aren't anywhere close to being acceptable, than the best essay in the world probably won't help. If you're on the bubble though, I would definitely write an essay. It could only help.

That's bull.

hey everyone, just to update...
Got my acceptance letter today!
: )

me too:) are you definitely going to Pitt?

congrats.......:)

Yay grapefruit! Way to go! Now you can relax and know you have an acceptance in hand.
