Hi! i am a white male at a suburban public school outside of philly, who is going to be a senior next year! i spent grades 9-10 at a private catholic school. my weighted GPA is 3.95 (its risen every year) and my SATs are: Cum: 2060, Math: 700, CR: 700, Writing: 660

I am a soon to be eagle scout, have done community service (including a project i organized myself) and ran cross country, play rec soccer and baseball at the park, have toutored elementary school children. my senior year schedule includes one AP (calc) and 4 honors classes (physics, english, government, and economics)

i would like to enter into engineering

there is one catch however, i am only in the top 40% of my class. this could be due to the fact that my first school was much harsher on grading.

so what do you all think? can i get in?

The admissions people will be familiar with both of the schools you attended. My prediction is that you will be accepted.

Your GPA & SAT are definitely on par with SSOE. It’s doubtful you’ll get a full-tuition scholarship, but if you apply early enough you might be lucky to get half-tuition or some “book money” from SSOE!

oh wow thanks, so you guys don’t think the low class rank will hurt me?

Rank is not the best indicator when you attend a good high school. You can be a pretty good student and be near 50 percent in your class. Many prep schools and magnet schools do not rank for that reason.

According to the official stats (http://www.ir.pitt.edu/cds/documents/CDS2010-11PittsburghCampus.pdf) Class Rank is considered, but no where NEAR as important as rigor of classes, GPA and SAT scores for exactly the reasons MD Mom said.
