ucsd uses a point system which gives you a weak chance of portraying your actual character/personality thoroughly, unlike cal or ucla. your app basically then is gauged so that each part is worth a certain number of points.

there is a downside to this. for example, by actual value 600+ hours of community service is worth the same as 100 or 200 hours because ucsd gives a certain amount of points for >100 volunter hours. i also think the essays aren't given as much weight as they should, and i say this because there is this one student from my high school with a 4.15gpa and 1900 sat (low 600s on the sat2s) who was accepted @ stanford and cal, but rejected @ ucsd and ucla. on his essays, he wrote about growing up in the ghetto, going through hardship.

so it looks like -- reach. it isn't end of the world. actually it isn't even close. college admissions are so fickle and random. there are some who get into ucsd with similar stats.

Honestly, you have a VERY low chance. Your gpa is low according to SD standards. Try and get over a 4.0 W junior year and 1900+ on your sat's. Good luck.

Yeah the point system doesnt really help your stats. your fine for community service. the only way you will earn alot of points off your essays is if you talk about hard times you been through for ex. (family member died, you got cancer, etc.) they give extra points for that stuff. your going to want to shoot for some high SAT scores to help your GPA out.
