I am an International seeking Aid.

I looked at your lunexplorers web site and noticed that it says that it is still "under construction"- but it was started in 2004- this may give people the impression that you haven't paid much attention to it- I think it would be better to remove that note.

AjayC,

I just reread my last post and realized that it is a bit abrupt. My son is a freshman at Dartmouth and I can't really give you a good answer as to your chances, but I have enjoyed reading your posts and am rooting for you to get into Dartmouth so I wanted to be helpful by giving you some feedback.

I have no idea if someone in Admissions will look at your websites but if they do, you want them to present you in the best possible way. I hope some others on this site go to your website and give you their reaction.

Good luck!

Ajayc, you are experienced enough on this site to know that it's impossible for anyone to say. And you've been on this site so often that I'm not sure any of us has anything additional to add . . . You've got very good stats and ECs, and you're obviously really interested in Dartmouth. If your passion comes through in your essays, I think you've got a decent chance.

^ Thank You for your feedbacks!

momofrower : Thank you for pointing that out. The softwares' time is out of sync. If you notice the date below that msg that will give the true picture. This project is 2 months old.

I really appreciate your support :)

Alright, I've actually decided to take a look at your Chances thread for once and while I was initially impressed with the plethora of awards that you seem to be proud of - including what I thought was an IOI gold medal, your accomplishments are, to be honest, trivial. In fact, take out all of your non-academic accomplishments, and you would still fare no better with Dartmouth admissions - which is notoriously statistics focused relative to the rest of the Ivy League.

You also haven't given us the most important numerical piece of information to assess you based upon - your SATs. Without that, your original post is a wash.

Thank you for you response.

Those that would get money are those who are sure bets for IIT and have HYP and S fighting for them
I don't quite agree with this. The students who get into the IITs are those who neglect their school and extra curricular activities for any of the 1000 IIT prep institutes available. How am I so sure about this? Because I was one of the students trying for IITs. I left the prep institute because my school was suffering and so was social life.

I have a friend of mine who is the topper at one the top prep schools. He decided to give the SAT with me. He scored a 1710[ M =680 CR=490 W=540]. Now I dont see how he can manage to get into any of the Ivy leagues without the score and ECs.

Big Brother : SAT scores come out on 25th. About Dartmouth being statistically focused, that might change this time since the new AdCom consists of officers who come from SAT Optional school. The result is yet to be seen.

I would love to see you have your own space group or whatever. He has every right to be proud of his accomplishments.

Yes RP, nothing like a troll who has no idea of the relative merits of science/mathematics awards that makes PC-prattling remarks. I commend you however, for at least acknowledging the validity of my statements.

If Ajay had collected an IOI gold now, that would be impressive. But an award from a secondary organization - that in and of itself means nothing (bonus points for effort perhaps?).

^ haha you think only the person who wins IOI is good? First its not a secondary organization. Its one of the main org. responsible for conducting olympiads in India. And not just 5-10 people participate. Arond 300,000 do each year at three different levels. http://www.sofworld.org/

In your own words, stop acting like a douche. :p

Ok this is weird Lara5's both the posts vanished.

It seems so.

So you are saying that Dartmouth College would NOT want a bloke who has own aerospace company, NASA award, his own magazine AND who went around 5000 miles for social work? Interesting.

Ajay,

It looks like you were able to change the date on your website which is good but still, if you have the time, I suggest that you do whatever is needed to get the website to the point where you don't need the qualifier "...still under construction. We apologize for the inconvenience." Think about what would make a good impression on a Dartmouth admissions person who looks at this site.

Out of curiosity, I copied and pasted the link to the forum. It shows only one post, in the news section, by you, and all the other sections show "0 posts/ 0 topics". If possible, it would help if you get some friends and/or family members to submit posts so that there is some activity shown. You don't want it to appear that you just put this site together to look good for your application.

Nice try Ajay. The link you gave me was a rather inconsequential organization that really has no ties to the real Science Olympiad competitions in India. What you SHOULD be aiming for is this:

http://www.imsc.res.in/~iarcs/inoi/

Also, keep in mind that your country has a billion people, and yet only about as many participants as with the AMC here in the United States.

EVEN then, a top award with the National IOI circuit won't impress Dartmouth adcoms. It takes a serious level of achievement a la the international level - especially coming from your situation, to impress adcoms wrt academic contests. That's because at the initial stages, they're merely ECs - and not even good ones at that.

And please, if you didn't want my opinion, then you shouldn't have posted your Chances thread. If you only wanted me to say what you wanted to hear, then next time, PM me what you want me to say, and I might do it. That's why I didn't start threads like this back in the day.

Yes idiot, that's because Ajay does NOT own an aerospace company, has a NASA award that's ultimately trivial (heck, have you even looked up the stuff that he's posted?) as well as an unpublished and under-circulated ONLINE "magazine," and really, doesn't have a lot if you look over his artificially inflated list. We also don't know the context of his AIDS Awareness project, and whether or not he played a big administrative part of it. Did Ajay really ride 6000 miles? You could list a bunch of activities and not have any connection to them whatsoever in your application - that's not going to come off well with admissions.

Once again troll, you have no idea what you're talking about. It shouldn't take much to take what you read with a grain of salt and then investigate it under the proper rational lenses. And yet, the adcoms are better at this than I am. Nice to see that momofrower also spotted the inconsistencies.

I don't think any of the major awards are really major, considering the vague wording which makes them sound impressive even though they're really probably not; the rest of the CV is pretty good for an American student, but about average to slightly above average for internationals overall. And, of course, relative to the total Indian applicant pool, it's probably not enough to give you good odds of admission.

I am impressed, though, by the Linux work you've done - it's hard enough to get schools to use Linux, much less a distribution compiled by a high school kid. It sounds like something you might want to emphasise.

But in any case, as Big Brother 1984 said, there's no point to chance threads. Once app time rolled around last year I just stopped bothering with them. Nobody can tell you how the adcom will look at your app; the best we can do is tell you how we perceive it.

Yeah, I too am impressed by the Linux thing, and I'd like another Linux person at Dartmouth :p. It's a big deal - shows that you can do something practical with your skills.

Though the company might NOT be famous, it does exist. Click the link above.

About the NASA award, just google NASA Student Involvement Program. I dont have the gold shuttle cuff links with me for nothing.

Did Ajay really ride 6000 miles?

Yes. A certificate from the Indian Govt. AND from the National Cadet Corps can prove that.
I never said I have any problems with your opinions. :)

And about the inconsistencies momofrower noticed, there is a simple logic to that. The Google X Prize was announced on 9/13/2007 and I started my company to compete for X prize like 2 years ago? :p Though, I agree that there was a small glitch with the CMS I am using because it kept using the default date as the date it was released on.

Ajay, you do not need to justify to anyone here the stuff on your resume. But when you begin neurotically posting replies and calling me a douche, I think it's quite clear that you have a problem with my posts, and that you're quite insecure about yourself. People need to have confidence in themselves!

Regardless, one always has to ask the question of what kind of company another kid is running. Several of my Dartmouth peers have claimed themselves to be business owners coming into Dartmouth, but what exactly does that mean? After all, what's the point in going to Dartmouth if one already has a successful Google-like tech startup?

It turned out that their business involvement is mediocre at best and in your case Ajay, all I see is a website with very little activity going on. Not a good sign!

Regardless, if we take a look at what on your application can be of substance, it's going to come down once again to your SAT scores. I know of an International '11 here on campus and while he had mediocre extracurricular involvement and awards (due to his circumstances), his scores were exceptional and his focus was unique. Obviously he was accepted. You know him now as johnleemk.

Adcoms are very understanding of your circumstances, and what you have available to you now is obviously going to be different than with an International student living in the U.S. However, it appears that you have very little things worth mentioning and the things that you do have appear sketchy at best.

No way mate! I was kidding because you love using the word douche :)

Jeez SAT scores tomorrow.

OK, here's the scenario: you have Ajay, the ultimate Dartmouth-lover, EVERYONE knows he wants to go to Dartmouth, EVERYONE has seen his numerous chance threads.

Then, someone comes up and questions the validity of his EC's. Why do I find this dumb?

1) As far as I know Ajay, he's not the kind of guy who'd lie on his app
2) He's SO into this school. Why would he NOT want an accurate analysis of his chances?

Go figure, guys.
