Chances

what are my chances for Cornell?

600 in all sections of SAT

gpa 3.5 weighted: 4.7

top 5 percent

About 10 extra curricular activities

ESSAY: Death experience

RECCOMENDATIONS: Excellent

umm which school?

and just looking at your stats...how can you be top 5% with a 3.5 and an 1800? those stats are really really low for cornell. not to be mean, but i would look more at your other college options.

10 extracurriculars?
haha
i have 12.

1800 is low for Cornell. 3.5 UW is also low, although 4.7 weighted is not. Jeez, that's a huge G.P.A. increase from unweighted to weighted. How does the G.P.A. system work at your high school?

How do you get in the top 5% with a 3.5?

No awards. None of your EC's are important enough to be named? Interesting.

Your chances are slim.

Better hope that "death experience" thing was an absolutely outstanding essay.

^^even so, cornell doesn't let people in just because they have death experiences/can write amazing essays about them.

your sats and gpa are definitely low. i don't know if you're a junior or a senior, but if you're a junior, i'd pick out some of the ecs your really like, and focus on 2-3 of them. sorry to be brutal, but i'm an honest person. i'd take laurstar's advice and broaden your horizons.

maybe he just goes to a really tough school with minimal grade inflation.

i mean half these kids who are asking "omg, i have a 3.94, is that bad?" are probably insecure because they know their school was a joke and just handed them As like candy on halloween night.

I agree with rollercoaster. 10 ECs actually looks kinda bad since it tends to mean you're focus is all over the place when it should be 2 or 3 things you're VERY passionate about.

His 1800 SAT score doesn't support this statement.

^ Exactly. If grade deflation was truly prevalent at the OP's school, and he worked his butt off to acquire that 3.5, then that should have been reflected in a higher SAT score.

A.P classes 5

Honors and G.T. classes: 12-15 --school had biomedical magnet

you still didnt say which school you applied to

hmm SAT is still a bit low. And again there dsnt seem to b one EC ur realli interestd in or doing. I dnt kno why u listd them all including AP "honors" Sorry to say every1 has them. I didnt even list mine cuz its counts for nill. Also, making the Honor Roll in high school counts for almst nothing too because some hs dont have em and if they did, most ppl applying to ivy's would be on it.

Im not putting you down, im just being realistic. Cuz I have hrd how adcoms rate applicants. They receive thousands with various such local awards. If I were you, I hope the SCHOOL/COLLEGE essay you wrote is good. Cuz even tho u had a death exp., that essay is part of the personal statement which tells them how you think. So, writing abt a death exp. will not change how they measure you. BUT a strong statement will help any1. The College essay would tell them how you approach Cornell from an intellectual/academic perspective. This will b a good way of making up for low SATs. So tell us what school you are applying to.

Low SAT I scores and weak ECs might make admission to Cornell very difficult for you. P.S. How do you know that your recommendations are excellent? Aren't recommendations confidential?

^ My teachers showed me their recommendations.

Some of the things you listed really shouldn't count.

National Achievement Scholarship Program (Does this just mean that you were a member of the program? No scholarship right?)

Honor Roll member every term of high school (that's just high G.P.A.)

Top five percentile in my class (that's not an EC or award or honor)

Creator of study group for my peers- classmates collaborate to help each other in various areas of study (so you studied with your friends?)

Calculus program in 11th grade (does this just mean that you took Calculus?)

You have the highest AP English Language and AP U.S. History scores in your school? So, you got 5s on the tests........right?

Low SAT + low G.P.A. + no outstanding EC's (I think) + no leadership.

hmmmm, probably a reject.

gender, race, and location?

Which School? Omggg

SAT II's Math 1: 710 U.S. History: 730 English lit: 700

schools applied to: Cornell, UMBC, U of Miami, Harvard, JHU,

no like which school at cornell

and you applied to harvard too? wow...ok

Applied to CALS.
