Chances

ok so i know stanford is never a sure thing for anyone, so i thought hey why not try to get in.

so i am a rising senior and i have a 3.96 unweighted gpa and a 4.08 weighted gpa. i take the most demanding classes at my school and 4 ap classes so far, with 10 total by the end of my senior year.
i took the act and i struggled on it and i got a 27, but i'm gonna retake it in sept. and i am confident of a 32 or better.
my recommendations should be excellent and my essays above average; i don't necessarily have the best ec's, however, i take part in youth united way and another organization like that (actually i will be new to them this year) and i probably have 100+ hours of other service including tutoring elementary kids for about 50+ of those hours. i do sports and will have participated in 8 seasons total. i am also in nhs and should be an officer this year.

i know i look just like every other kid applying to stanford, but i was just wondering if i had a shot. i was gonna apply early action to stanford and michigan (i think i can at least) and i expect to get into u of m with my new act score, but who knows with stanford.

o and i won't take any sat subject tests if that matters

thanks in advance for all those that reply

Ok, so I'll break down your application for you, and gives chances at the end. First of all, you can't apply early to both Stanford and Michigan, since Stanford is SCEA (single choice early action).

Unweighted GPA:excellent
Weighted GPA: good (how many APs are offered at your school??)
Testing: good (with new score of 32)
Recs: excellent i guess
Essays: good
ECs: ok

And i just saw that you won't be taking any subject tests. For Stanford, you should to take at least two subject tests. it is stated on their website as being "strongly recommended". Without subject tests, your chances of admission are close to zero.

So yeah, hope this helps.

ok thanks so i will have to take the subject tests... dang
but i think i can apply early to both because there are exceptions from the stanford early action (if not can you please clear it up cause i will be the first to admit i have no idea about college apps, so i do need help)

From the stanford website:
Exceptions to Stanford’s Restrictive Early Action Program

Applicants must agree to submit only one Restrictive Early Action application and cannot apply Early Decision, Early Action or Early Notification elsewhere. Exceptions exist, however, and as a result, Restrictive Early Action applicants may apply to:

* Any institution, public or private, under a non-binding Rolling Admission option.
* Public institutions under a non-binding Early Action program.
* Foreign colleges/universities on any application schedule.
* Institutions whose early application deadlines are a requirement for consideration for special academic programs or scholarships only if the notification of admission occurs after January 1.
* Institutions under an Interim Decision program only if the notification of admission occurs after January 1.

but i guess i would just have to apply normal deadline for stanford though cause i couldn't take the subject tests in time for the early action deadline.

so here's my new question do you think i could be accepted into stanford with the normal deadline, 32 on my act, and say 730's on my sat subjects
cause i think i could take the us history, one of the maths, and maybe a chem

and by the way i took calc ab and bc junior year and us history
then i plan to take chem, biology, physics, stats, lang, and another ap chem class (which is beyond the normal ap chem)
my senior year

overall my school has about 14 ap classes so i am taking the majority of them

thanks for your post and can you take this new one into consideration?
