Chances?

I know you guys see a million of these, but I figure since the suspense is killing me, I may as well see what types of responses I'll get by posting on here.

GPA: 3.77 unweighted/ 4.22 weighted
ACT: 30 composite / 31 writing
SAT: 650 critical reading/ 650 math/ 720 writing
ECs: School band all four years, established a club at school, NHS, Model UN, 116 hours of community service
Ranked in top 5 percent of my class (class of around 660 people)
EDIT: I've taken a total of four AP classes between grades 9 and 11, and taking three this year.

What other info would be useful in determining whether or not I'll be accepted?

Also, why does UF take so long to send out the decision?

good chances.
Well, the average time for school's to send out their decisions are approx. 2-3 months. My guess is their high volume of applications.

I don't have any statistical data to back this up, but I'd assume that FSU gets a similar number of applications. So if their deadline was October 15 and they got back to us December 3, I'd imagine UF could get back to us before February with an application deadline of November 1. But perhaps there's a different method involved in the reviewing process.

UF's admissions standards are tougher... With a 4.2 GPA and a 1300 SAT you should be able to get in. I'm hoping to get in with a 3.9 GPA and the same SAT and pretty much equivalent EC's (I was in band 4 yrs as well).

Good luck.

Tougher indeed, Matt. Good luck to you as well!

Looks like this forum has been active so anyone else?

Okay, I just got accepted into UCF's Burnett Honors College. Is that a possible indicator that I'll be accepted into UF?

Your chances are good.

Not necessarily ... we knew a lot of kids in my s's class as well as last year's who were accepted into UCF honors, but they did not get into UF. I don't think anything's a total slam dunk with this university. Eventhough my d's been accepted into UCF honors and GaTech as a PSP semi-finalist, she's "cautiously optimistic" for UF.

zebes,

Admission to UF is a crapshoot. UF uses a holistic approach or so they say. Since they are public, they have quotas to fill and certain individuals are accepted with lower credentials while students who are more than qualified are denied admissions. In my senior year of high school, I know of a good five students who were denied admission and had pretty good credentials, while a few others were accepted with lower stats. due to their racial background and such. I do believe that they do use a Holistic approach, but it's still a numbers game, like if you do not fall in their range (depending on the applicants, 4.4W/ 1350-1500 SAT, or something like that), your immediately denied, but if you fall in that barrier, than you have a STRONG chance and if you have a decent extracurricular record, then you'll get in for Spring session at least. Just my 2 cents from experience.

These last two posts are what have been making me so skeptical about UF's decision. I guess the only real solution is to wait until February 13th.
