I had a bad freshman year, but I've gotten better. (GPA around 2.9 freshman year)
I took An "Accelerated" class freshman year, took honors chemistry last year, and I'm taking AP Biology this year.
Worked as an umpire freshman year.
Volunteered to help coach my little sister's softball team the summer after freshman year, and I logged 24 hours.
Taken private drum lessons and had a band for almost two years now.
Started the political science club at my school this year.
Played intramural basketball every year.
Joined the robotics team this year.
Worked from May 2008-October 2008 at a grocery store (15-20+ hours per week).
I would guess I am at least in the top 25% of my class, possibly 10%.
Connecticut resident.
Parents make about 120,000 dollars a year combined.
I want to major in political science.
What are my chances to get in to University of Florida if I apply early action? How much financial aid/scholarships (if any) would I receive?

Umm doesn't UF use a sort of weighted GPA?

there is no early action, only one date

If I apply on that date what would my chances be?

my GPA is around there, and I have similar albeit fewer ECs and a 1310 SAT, so if I get in or don't, I'll post in here

Question,

Your 3.4 UW GPA does not include "fluff" classes, does it? UF and every other university takes out your electives and non-academic core classes when calculating your GPA for admission. So your GPA could turn out to be higher, but in most cases a couple points lower, if electives are where your A's lie for the most part.

they have EA sort of, just priority, you get notice early. I think it was nov. 1, like penn st.

would a psychology class that is an elective count?

you might get in. uf's acceptance rate is 36% and expected to drop due to budget cuts. but most students who get in nowadays boast a minimum of 5 AP classes. i had a friend with just as impressive of a resume as yours and unfortunately he did not get in. however, i'm almost certain UF is required to let in a certain number of out of state students each year. so you may have an advantage there. plus new england schools tend to have a better educational system than florida public schools where most uf students come from. make sure you kick butt on your essays. they are NOT to be taken lightly. i doubt you'll get a scholarship unless its athletic or you get into the honors college. most students here are going off of state funded fin aid such as bright futures and florida pre-paid. my best advice is to make senior year count. do not slack off. that's mostly what dampers people. especially because you had a weak freshman year. that tends to hold people back. also take the sat/act until yours scores are the highest possible. mine were high enough to get me in, but with students with lower sat scores they tend to offer you the summer b session to "catch up" with your classmates. however my gpa was high, i was super involved and went to one of the best public schools in florida. there are a ton of factors that could make the difference between that "Congratulations!" or the "We regret to inform you..." i know i made it sound like its really hard but if you really want something you need to go get it with full force! i wish you luck with all your college applications and UF is a great school to study political science! you may also want to consider applying to Florida State University if your heart is set on Florida. they too have an excellent poly sci program. but of course, should you be accepted to both, just remember how awesome the gator nation is!!!
