I'm in a really competitve district.

You sound competitive to me. They look for well-rounded candidates and I’d say you definitely fit the bill. You’ve got the hard classes, the high grades and test scores, the athletics, the volunteering, and leadership (captaincies and Chemistry club…will you be in a leadership position?)

Stick with the tough classes and try to maintain your GPA/class ranking (since you’re in a competitive district, you may be competing with some of your classmates for congressional nominations). Also, make sure to continue running (like you already are) in the off-season/summer and work on pushups/situps. You will have to take a physical fitness test as part of your application.

When did u get ur acceptance e-mail to the Welch Summer Scholar Program?
I’ve probably been rejected considering the fact that I haven’t heard back from them… :(

My HSer hasnt heard back from the Welch program either. There was a new message on the Welch website promising that notifications would be sent out the week of April 12, but we still have had no communication from them. :(
