I'm an asian female at a public high school that has been nationally recognized a couple of times. So in comparison I'm definitely in the top 10% and I would safely guess in the top 5%. I plan on going into science (pre-med probably).

Glad to hear you’re interested in W&M. You seem to have many strong qualities to put forward in your application.

How many years of Spanish have you completed? We notice it’s not on your schedule for senior year. If you completed Spanish 4 junior year that’s fine. If not, we might recommend finding a way to get Spanish 4 in your curriculum for senior year.

As for sophomore year, was there any particular reason for the drop in grades? The drop certainly isn’t very concerning (still all As and Bs) but if there was an extenuating circumstance you might want to make mention of it in your application.

We’d definitely recommend providing your first quarter grades if you apply early or your first semester grades if you apply RD. Your AP grades are mainly B+s and not As so showing some more As in APs your senior year could be helpful.

Finally, with regard to your ECs, do your officer positions have an actual title? Providing that title (such as treasurer) provides far more clarity than just saying “officer”. And make sure your 3 and 4 year ECs and those with leadership continue into your senior year.

We caution any student to remember that W&M is highly selective admitting only 1/3 of those who apply. Because of our holistic process, all students have a chance (no one is automatically in or out) and if interested, should apply but no student should count W&M among their safety schools.

For more on our process and any applicant’s chances, check out our Admit It! Blog ([W&M Blogs Chance Me](http://blogs.wm.edu/2010/12/14/chance-me/))

I’m taking Spanish 4 Level 1. I’m also taking English Level 1 (my school does not offer AP English) and am taking 2 additional English electives. For the clubs I am treasurer/secretary and was secretary for the other one (now a president).

There is a reason, but it isn’t major like a family member dying or contracting a disease. I had to live in a different town for part of the year because of house problems and that situation was just very messy.

Thanks for the input!

Great. Just make sure you clearly articulate those position titles rather than referring to them as “officer”.

And do feel free to provide the explanation for the downturn in grades. Every bit of information is helpful.
