Well, I think being female will help, but I'm not qualified to tell you about chances. I think it would also help your chances if you are from an underrepresented area. They seem to care a great deal about getting students from the maximum number of states and countries.

I can speak to financial aid, though. We got exactly what was indicated by the fafsa...our small financial need was offered as loans. Like most others I know of, our financial aid appeals were not particularly fruitful. One financial aid representative told me that he had $50K loans and his girlfriend had $70K and not to worry about it. I am a worrier. We passed on cmu.

That said, I do think it is a great school for many things. I liked the atmosphere, the size and the people. I liked the fine arts and engineering programs to which my son was admitted. I liked the integration of disciplines. If money was not an issue, I would recommend it for students seeking the cmu kind of experience.

thankyou....
for me money is an issue to some extent....
if i make it to mit, my parents have said that they will do anything to send me.....loans are welcome they said
if i make it to berkley, cmu or rice they prolly wont
they want me to go to umich....which is not bad deal at all ( they will pay for EVERYTHING)
