Thanks!

These are the schools I am looking at:

* Amherst C
* Cornell U
* Hamilton C (NY)
* SUNY Geneseo
* Skidmore C
* Yale U

My GPA (unweighted) is about 3.72. I just finished my junior year of HS.

SAT: CR:710 M:670 W:660
SAT II: US History: 720 Lit: 760

EC's:

9th grade:

Recycling club,
recreational softball,
my poem came in 2nd in a county writing contest

10th grade:

recycling club,
rec softball,
a short story i wrote was published in a literary journal in a tri-county contest, and there was an award ceremony at Skidmore if that makes a difference

11th grade:

key club,
rec softball

Oh and i am starting a summer job too. (waitressing). And as something random and interesting I've been to England 3 times. I could probably right a pretty good application essay and I know at least one of my teacher rec's will be pretty good.

umm chances? thank you.

what, no one is really bored and feeling chance-ish?

Geneseo-Safe
Skidmore-Match
Hamilton-Match

the rest are reaches

this is all assuming you have a rigorous courseload

Thank you extemp!

and yes my course load is fairly rigorous.

i will have 3 AP’s and all honors classes as well as several electives when I graduate.

that’s what I think rrr321. No I will probably not take the SAT I again.

so SATS might hurt you at those schools, but another thing that i forgot to add is that having a job looks good on apps I think… you’d be surprised at how few kids work nowadays. It might sound clich

wow, thanks rr321, that’s inspiring ;-)

Yale, Amherst, and Cornell are probably difficult reaches due to your SAT scores (as has previously been stated in this thread). I would HIGHLY recommend you take it one more time

Apply to Cornell ED and i think you could get in! Your SAT 2’s and EC’s are strong!

thanks rotflmaospencer! maybe I’ll apply ED, although I am not sure I could get my act together in time.

Proclivity, would it be worth it if I only think i could go up about 50 points at most? I already got a much higher score than all of my friends and family, so no one supports the idea of taking it again. Plus, i’d rather not… I understand that yale, amherst, and cornell are reaches. I’ll live.

Amherst and Yale are definitely reaches, since your unweighted GPA isn’t very high and your course load is pretty average. (actually this is relative… if your school only offers 4 APs and you take 3, that’ll look pretty good, while say if your school offers 20 APs and you only take 3, then…) If you really want to go to Cornell, you should ED, and are you sure you don’t want to take the SATs again? getting a 2200+ would really help you there.

The rest are safeties.

Good luck
