Extracurriculars:
--Speech and Debate team (9-12), currently have Degree of excellence, involvement increasing each year, compete in public forum, extemp, and original advocacy or original oratory, my most important, time consuming, and enjoyable formal EC
--Participation in BeWISE (Better Education for Women ins Science and Engineering) (7-12), attend various workshops (all free) throughout the years including day long events at places like a nuclear power plant, CRES, SeaWorld, the USS Midway, etc., in order to learn more about different applications of science. I've also participated in the longer, more intensive summer programs (see below)
--Hospital Volunteer (10-12), will have over 200 hours by the time I graduate
--Future Voters of America Club (10-12), co-president this year, discuss current events and issues, try to get students interested and involved in the democratic process
--Children's Relief Coalition (10-12), vice president this year, the club fundraises in order to support an underprivileged sponsor child in South America
--Amnesty International (10-12), president this year, we try to defend human rights by writing letters, screening movies, and in December will host schoolwide letterwriting event at lunch for Amnesty's Global Write-A-Thon week
--Nominated for and attended The Jenna Druck Foundation Spirit of Leadership Conference, means I also won Spirit of Leadership Award (10)

--Exercise at the gym(9-12), five days a week, 8 hours a week, counts for independent PE this year
--Stay up to date on current events (9-12), which I know isn't really an EC but it ties in to my involvement with Future Voters, and I do spend a lot of time watching the news (like when I'm exercising), reading the papers, The New Yorker, etc.
--Senior Year: will do 90-180 hour unpaid internship in the healthcare field as part of my school's Academy Intern program

Summers:
Before 10th:
--took a drawing class at a local community college, not to fulfill a school requirement but because of my interest in drawing
--One of 12 girls accepted into the Young Women in Cancer Research Oncofertility Academy, which is a part of BEWiSE. As part of the program, we had various sessions on the UCSD campus and other locations in which different scientists taught us about the many issues relating to oncology and assisted reproductive technologies. We each designed research projects and created full size scientific posters for them.

Before 11th:
--Traveled to Washington DC, also Washington state
--Attended weeklong SPAWAR physics and engineering bootcamp, which was also a BEWiSE program, learned the science behind motion, antennas, electricity, and robotics, found out about various different careers in engineering, got to construct and program our own lego robots

Colleges:
Any Ivy League School
Amherst
Carleton
Haverford
Macalester
Pomona
Rice
Stanford
Swarthmore
University of Chicago
Wesleyan
Williams

All your schools look good as long as you can increase your math score to a 730+. With a 730, you will be golden, but you have to work hard to get there.
Good luck, chance back

I dont know about other opinions but you are good i mean GOOD and probably well suited for most of the schools in your list

Any Ivy League school? You do realize Brown is vastly different from Columbia, which is very different from Cornell, etc. They are in the same athletic conference and are all excellent schools academics-wise. They share nothing more. Being in the Ivy League does not mean they are equal schools. I would truly examine if you are comfortable applying to all eight of them - they really are very different.

Oh yeah, I totally realize that… I’m definitely not going to be applying to all of these schools; I haven’t made my final list yet… I guess when I said “any Ivy League school” I meant more if anyone had an opinion on my chances at a specific one-- I should’ve made that more clear. (:

I don’t post in chances threads too often, because they are inherently flawed and pointless. However, I’ll note that you are “in range” for the schools you’ve posted. When looking at schools of this selectivity (< or = 20% acceptance rates for all on your list except maybe Carleton and Macalester) it’s going to be a crapshoot. These school will turn away completely qualified applicants - they are shaping a class and if they already admitted 3 oboe players, the 4th isn’t going to get in. This is especially true at the LACs. As for the Ivies - again, crapshoot. Pick the ones YOU want to go to. Your application will be stronger because you’re more vested in getting in. Your chances are about the same at all of them. When you’re looking at 9% vs. 15% acceptance rate, what’s the difference? It’s a shot in the dark regardless. Pick the schools you will be happiest at and just apply. You’ll likely get into at least one school.

Right now you are too top-heavy on selective schools. Figure out which schools on your list you would REALLY want to attend, if admitted, and which ones you would not. Also, make sure you return your transcript authorization form that you recently received or will receive in the Spring, assuming your school is an ELC school. “ELC” (stands for eligible in the local context), guaranteeing you admission to 2nd-tier or 3rd tier UC’s as long as a few conditions are met, for students in the top 4% of their high school class. Those become good safety schools, just in case your top selective school choices don’t pan out.

Yeah, I realize this can’t be my final list. These are just schools I am interested in so far; I don’t have to apply for almost another year. But does anyone have an opinion about if any of these schools seem like matches/reaches for me? (:

Any Ivy League School - Will not comment on this. Too broad.
