I'm a black male who goes to a public Alabama High School.

I know that my ACT is VERY LOW, but I am going to take it and the SAT once more in the fall and possibly apply early. Besides the fact that my act score is low, do I even have a chance?

That's all for now, let me know on my chances.

As you are from out of state, it may be tough with a 3.65 GPA and relatively low ACT. However, if you can get a better ACT / SAT and emphasize your experiences in Band in your essay, you may have a shot. Either way, it doesn't hurt to try - the $60 or so dollar application fee is very small compared to the possibility of getting in. Hope this helps.

E-mail the band director too - make sure he knows you're interested in concert as well as marching, that could help you a little...

20 act is extremely low, and you are oos so...

what is oos so?

OOS = out of state

Your chances aren't great. URM status can only take you so far...you've gotta have grades and test scores that put you in the range of the rest of the student body to have a shot. I'd imagine that UVA's average ACT score is around 30, and the average high school gpa is probably 3.8+ (although your school and courseload may affect this.)
