Alright so I was accepted as an undergraduate for Summer 2013 at PSU UP. I was accepted with the major Chemistry in the College of Science. I really want to change my major, but I am completely unaware of how to go about doing this, or if it's even possible. Is it a possibility to change to Nuclear Engineering? I understand it's within a different college entirely. If I can't switch my major, I most likely won't attend PSU. If I can; however, it would most likely be a very different story.

If your school choice depends on this wouldn’t it be a good idea to talk to some at the university so you are confident that you’re getting accurate information?

Perhaps, but the question is simply whether one can change his major before attending. A lightly explained yes or no would be fine. It doesn’t need super specific information.
Not to mention that his forum seems like a place where someone who currently attends the school would be able to enlighten me.

Personally, I would be hesitant to base such a big decision on information I got from an anonymous board, especially when I think about some of the misinformation I have seen here over the last ten years and how simple it is to send an email.

Yes, you can change majors and many do, some more than once. In the College of Engineering you would not be admitted to a specific major until your junior year. Some departments (about half) have enrollment controls that limit the number of students accepted and require a minimum GPA (varying by department) for a guaranteed spot. I am not sure if Nuclear is one of them. There is lots of information about “entrance to major” on the College of Engineering website.

Hmm thank you for your input. Thankfully, I am only a 3 hour drive away and can visit the school any given weekend. I’ll look into it more then. But your answer is more than helpful

If you plan to visit you might contact the Engineering Advising Center and see if someone would be available to meet and answer any questions.

This question requires specific answer which can only be answered by PSU admissions team. Call them ? However, I will try my best.

The difficult majors to enter at Penn State are architecture, architectural engineering, Drama and Theater, Meteorology, and other handfuls. Don’t hold me on to it but I don’t think you will have a problem entering nuclear engineering. According to this website, (http://www.engr.psu.edu/AcademicPlans/) nuclear engineering can be started at any campus. Starting 2nd year i.e 3rd semester(according to pdf), you will have to take specific courses for nuclear engineering. http://www.engr.psu.edu/AcademicPlans/UniversityPark/NuclearEngineering.pdf

So, when you get to PSU, immediately try to change your major to nuclear.
