I am a sophomore looking to transfer this fall. i just switched my major, however, and will not have many classes in that field when i transfer. Will this affect my chances of getting into that program?

Also, i plan to take 2-3 summer courses in my major. I'm sure the other courses i have taken can fill gen ed and area reqs. Btw, i will have around 60 credits after this semester (or a little more than that)

Well, it depends on what the major is. And what the transfer schools typically expect students with that major to have completed by sophomore year. For a lot of majors, it might not matter much.

For Engineering, it would be a big problem. But I'm guessing that's not the case.

There is only one way that will affect the admission decision--

If you don't have the necessary prereqs to get into a specific program, they might place you in 2nd year (only give you enough credits for sophomore status).

In most cases the acceptance rate for 3rd year transfer is greater than that of 2nd year transfer

Otherwise---if the institution decides to accept you, they will determine how much credit you receive and what requirements you have to fulfill at the specific university for your prospective major

The new major is Political Science. I was originally a philosophy major. I am applying to several schools but my top choice is University of Pittsburgh. If i get accepted there, I am hoping to do their Philosophy / Poli Sci joint major program.
