Change of Residency Tuition

Hey Y’all

So I was recently accepted to Penn at UP…
But, I’m out of state student and going to pay out of state tuition my first year… and wanted to change to instate after a year

I was wondering how the processes works from changing out of state tuition to in state tuition.

I know some criteria is be independent, above age 23,12 months residing in PA, driver’s license & license plate to PA, and other strict criteria.

Any recommendations from people who were successful on changing their residency tuition?

thank you

OK, so it’s not Penn–that’s an ivy league school in Philadelphia. To claim in-state residency for tuition purposes at Penn State, you must reside in PA for 12 months for purposes OTHER THAN EDUCATION. So an out-of-state student can’t just claim that they are in-state after their freshman year.

Thank you @cagb1016 for both clarifications

I’m actually a transfer student… But, I saw that it had to be 12 months prior to initial enrollment. There really is no way to prove that i want PA as my home forever huh?

No. Generally, for tuition purposes you are a resident of the state where your parents pay taxes which go to support that state’s public schools. They don’t care where you want to live after you graduate.
