Hi, I was accepted into Stony CAS because I applied with an undecided major, but am now leaning towards double majoring in Stony CEAS. Stony allows double majoring across schools but I would rather double major in two areas in CEAS rather then one major from CAS and one in CEAS. Am I able to/is there a procedure for transferring between colleges?

You have to apply to your major of choice in the CEAS. It is typically not that easy to get accepted into any of the CEAS majors, unlike the CAS majors. You need B’s minimum in physics I & II and calc I & II before you can become a CEAS major. If you don’t have those grades you are an AOI (area of interest) student, which honestly, you might as well be undelcared.

You pretty much have to go to the CEAS student office room 127 old engineering, who will typically go over your grades, give you advice and then they might send you to the undergraduate program director to apply for acceptance into the major of your choice. If you have the minimum grade requirements in physics and calc, or the undergraduate program director is in a good mood, they will place you into the major.

It really is a dumb and confusing system, and can be quite a hassle sometimes. The main advice I can give is just go to room 127 old engineering and they will answer any and all questions you have. The CEAS advisors really are very helpful and friendly. Good luck.

Oh ok, so if I take the pre-requisite classes during my first and second year at Stony in CAS for the majors I’m intending to apply to and do well, I can attempt to transfer into CEAS and double major there?

Sorry if I sound a bit uninformed, but would it be possible to take the prerequisite classes at CAS for CEAS majors? And if my grades and credentials were good enough would I be able to enter into one of the five year BE/MS programs?

Jimmy’s last piece of advice – heading to the Engineering building and talking with Jen or Deb from their advising staff – is a good idea.
