I just noticed that in my application I misdated the field [when did you start high school?]. I put August of 2008 instead of 2009, so it looks as if I spent an extra year in high school. I was deferred from Harvard with this information, so I'm not sure how big or if it played a role at all. This mistake was carried over to two other submitted applications before I caught the mistake and changed it for future applications. I guess the question is how big of a role might this play in admissions and how might I go about getting this corrected. Should I email the additions to application address sent in my deferred letter (fas.fileroom@harvard.edu)? Thanks.

It’s NOT a big deal, as I’m sure your high school transcript, submitted by your guidance counselor, had the correct information. In cases like this, colleges trust official information from your high school over what you have personally written down. So, I don’t think you have to correct the info – to Harvard or to any other college. In terms of your deferral, I am 99.9999999999999999999999999999999 percent certain it had nothing to do with the dates you listed for high school.
