So, I'm a little confused about the whole National Merit Finalist process. According to the letter I got, they start notifying colleges of which schools students put as their first choice on March 1. I put Northeastern University as my first choice, because they offered the most money out of the schools I was looking at. So, Northeastern notified me in the mail that they are offering me full tuition for all four years as a National Merit Finalist. However, I don't think I'll be able to go there because of financial concerns. In the same letter from the NMSC, it says that they start mailing out scholarship offers on April 28, and that you can't change your first choice school after you receive an offer "from the NMSC." Am I right in assuming that I can change my first choice school from Northeastern to some other school before that date and still receive the normal scholarship? I've been trying to call the NMSC, but they're closed by the time I get home from school...I'll have to try at lunch or something. In the meantime, if anybody knows about this, that would be great! Thanks!

They’re offering you a free ride and you still have financial concerns…?

But to answer your question, I think no, you can’t change it if someone’s already offered you something.

Cool, thanks for the tip.

Free tuition is not a “free ride”.

Anyway…call NMCorp when you can

Nat’l Merit Corp 847-866-5100

I think you can still change your mind. I know someone who was offered Auburn’s and is now taking another school’s NMF.

Where do you want to go instead?

Yeah, I called them today. I can still change before they start mailing out offers on April 28.

I thought so. Glad that you got thru!!

Where will you be going now?
