Has the deadline to change National Merit 1st choice passed?

I was just rejected from the college I listed as my first choice, and I wanted to know if there's still time to change it to another school.

I'm hoping that there is.

i dont think so....isn't the deadline in 2005 like march or april or something?

it should be pretty late...I think actually in April...because I remember counselors telling me I could still change it after I found out about the rest of my colleges (reply date of April 1st)

You can change it up until summer, I believe--or at least it was that way when my son did so four years ago. He had to change his after acceptance in April. It is, of course, best to change it as soon as possible.

My D changed it in May, after choosing her college, to get the scholarship.

is it possible to change it online? I've lost the card that they originally sent.

We changed it by phone and mail (without the card), but that was five years ago. At the time, I rmember their website was extremely unhelpful--may have changed since then.

You have until sometime in April (for some reason I think it was the 22nd last year). We too had lost the card and my son called them. I don't remember if he had to also send something in the mail.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you list a school and they offer you their NM scholarship, then I believe you're stuck with that and can't then change your first choice school. That's why my son waited until the last minute. In March he had his decision down to 3 schools, two of which offered NM scholarships. In April he finally narrowed it down to 1 of the schools which offered NM and the non-NM school, and then called NM with his first choice. If he had listed the other NM school earlier, he would not have been eligible for the NM scholarship at the school he finally listed. (I hope that's all correct, I'm working with a 50 year old brain about something that happened months ago!)

The one downside I can see about waiting is that some schools give different amounts of NM money, and by mid-April the higher amounts may be gone, leaving you with a smaller scholarship. Some schools, however, give a set amount to all.
