OSU is sons first pick. Also now having an issue at second pick. Have to say not the schools fault on both accounts. Just trying to figure out what to do to get best information . Touched base with both school admissions office and were very nice and both indicated come to orientation and work with adviser and see what can be done. Dont want to wait til orientation cause don’t want to pass on scholarships and then find out solution not the best.
So basic facts are we applied in Oct as electrical engineering as was his initial thought but still undecided. Got some great info about OSU actuarial science degree and asked for a major change around Christmas. What I didn’t know was that he couldn’t get back into engineering( not that he was in yet ) . So was accepted into actuarial science in Jan and has a scholarship and we are grateful.
We attended several admitted students visits at different schools and it worked as planned as he narrowed down his interests to industrial engineering with a minor in business if he has time and narrowed down schools .
So here we are now - he cant get into engineering is what admissions told me very nicely. He can work with adviser at orientation and maybe change to undeclared .
Talked to son about changing from actuarial science to data analytics and he is not interested .Both great program at OSU and would be a good fit.
I would be grateful for any helpful information and maybe who else I should reach out . I am only doing this one time and it was going so well until a few weeks ago. I really messed this up.
Thanks all !
PS. Other 6 schools either pre or direct admit electrical engineering. (only changed at OSU cause actuarial science seemed like a better fit and such a good program at OSU ) His other choice University of South Carolina ( not the other USC) also had a great admit event and scholarship and capstone honors and you are direct admit into engineering… So we narrowed from 7 to these two. Just found out USC doesn’t have industrial engineering. USC was wonderful also and indicated that mechanical engineering was close to industrial . Hmm.
