I have been accepted as an entering freshman as an Electrical Engineering major. After doing electricity in Physics, I have realized that I don't really want to major in this and I would like to change to AeroE. Can I change my major before starting college and how? Are there any restrictions?

GT has 1 “free” major change before 60 credit hours are completed. I’m not sure but I would think if you did it before starting college it wouldn’t count as the 1 change. That’s not saying you can’t change your major more than once anyway I’m just not sure what a “free” change is…I would contact admission on how to change it. Also If you really aren’t sure about AeroE then maybe you should change it to undecided engineering?

You can, and people, do change major as often as your heart desires. I’m really not sure what MichiganGeorgia is talking about. Secondly, you will have the opportunity to switch your major to whatever you like during FASET. Admission to Tech is not major specific so you can declare any major you want.

@yjm416 - This is what I was talking about.

VI. SCHOLASTIC REGULATIONS
F. CHANGE OF MAJOR
Undergraduate students, by filing the required form, will be permitted one unrestricted transfer between majors (including undecided) until they have accumulated credit for sixty hours. After sixty hours or upon subsequent request for transfer, the transfer will be permitted at the discretion of the school that the student is seeking to enter. Students who transfer from another institution to pursue a degree at Georgia Tech will be permitted to change their major only at the discretion of the school that the student is seeking to enter. Transfer students are not eligible for the one unrestricted change of major. (Note: Certain majors, because of high enrollment, have been granted a waiver of the one unrestricted transfer regulation. Students should consult with the individual school concerning its current transfer policy.

Here’s where I got it from:

I misunderstood you’re prior point, for which I apologize. I thought you were suggesting that you could only switch majors once, when that isn’t the case. It is correct that you need approval to switch majors under certain circumstances but this is largely a formality.

Can I do this freely? As in, do I need official approval and/or a legitimate reason?

You can change your major on Buzzport as many times as you like up until the first day of classes. That’s when you have to change your major through your adviser
