Changing majors at Pitt?

Hi,

I am currently a graduating senior that has been admitted to the School of Arts and Sciences at UPitt.
I was wondering what the process would be like if I wanted to change my track or major?
My track, indicated on my acceptance letter was for Pre-Physical Therapy.
Any insight would be great, thanks.

I am guessing I would have to talk with my advisor and fill out a form to apply for the change.

I think that you can take care of this at PittStart.

At the info session I attended they said that all arts and sciences students are essentially treated as “undecided” so you are not on a particular track until you declare your major which I think happens at the end of sophomore year.

Pre-physical therapy isn’t a major, so there’s nothing you would have to change. You will definitely discuss all this with your advisor at PittStart. Don’t worry about it!

This is great! I was a little worried there, but thank you all for your replies. I will definitely be contacting my adviser about this.

Hi Michael,

I am a Peer Advisor with the Advising Center for the School or Arts and Sciences at Pitt. You should always keep your advisor up-to-date about your major plans, but the advice you have gotten here so far is solid. Indicating a plan on your application does not bind you to that plan by any means. After meeting with your advisor at your Pitt Start Session, you’ll be free to enroll in courses that are not a part of the pre-physical therapy track without any paperwork.

If you want to pursure a plan that is outside of the Arts and Sciences (i.e. Information Sciences, College of Business Administration) there is an application process that varies from program to program. You should definitely talk to your advisor about this!

All and all, chaning your mind is alright (and the norm)!
Congrats on your acceptance and Hail to Pitt!
