Changing majors

I'm wondering about the flexibility of the inter-school mobility at UofM. If I decide to change my major sometime down the line of my college career, how easy will it be to switch to another major/college? What requirements are there for this?

Since most of the programs at UM are very competitive/top-notch, it does not seem like this would be a problem.

For example, if my HS transcript is not brilliant in the math area (due to justifiable reasons) and if I prove myself in tough math classes at UM, would I be able to switch to say a computer science major or economics?

just apply as undecided. sheesh.

I know someone who changed their major 5 times. It sounds like something I'll end up doing, as I currently change my schedule on a daily basis. I think you turn in a piece of paper or something like that.

Within the college of LSA, one can switch majors freely. It is also pretty easy to transfer to other colleges within the university. However, transfering to Ross is not easy.

If I want one of my majors to be economics, do I have to be accepted to Ross? Does Ross accept you based solely on your college performance?

No, Economics at the University of Michigan is an independent department that is part of the College of LSA.

Is the econ department top-notch at UM? Also, what majors or curriculums does the Ross business school house?

Michigan's Econ department is top notch. It is ranked anywhere between #7 and #15 in the nation, and that applies to the undergraduate level too. Michigan's Econ department has always been focused on undergrads. In terms of placement, the number of Econ majors who end up at top 10 Law Schools or joining major IBanks and MCs is impressive.

Ross only offers one degree in Business Management. However, studies can focus in any number of fields their senior year. That includes General Management, Marketing, Finance or Accounting, all of which are ranked among the top 2 or 3 nationally.
