well all my apps are in so obviously i cant change my major anymore, but if i wanted to change my major to something that was still under the same college, is it a long process? should i wait till im accepted to the college to notify them of my major change, or should i contact the colleges now and tell them that i want to change my major?

It's generally very easy. If the apps just asked for an intended major, you don't even have to notify them. They don't really care. Doing a change like history major to economics major (for example) is done all the time and they don't expect you to necessarily stick with the major you put on your app (I sure didn't!). Usually it's a very simple process of speaking with someone in your new department and they enter it into the computer system, and that's done once you're at the school.

I think the only problem you would have is if you applied to a certain college within the university. For example, let's say you applied to Duke's Pratt School of Engineering, but now you want to apply to the Trinity School of Arts and Sciences. That may pose some problems during the application process.

Check with college. They vary as to change of major. For many, it is easy to do so if not switching colleges (such as from A&S to engineering which would usually not be permitted). However, many have different rules and may not even allow a change until, at the earliest, after first semester.

It is not a problem and many change their minds by the time they arrive at school. It is dealt with during the first week or so of orientation.
