I got accepted into Hofstra's Health Science major but I think I want to change it to Biology. Could you tell me more about both majors? And if possible, how do I make the switch? Thanks!

Hey there, my name is Courtney and I am a senior here at Hofstra majoring in biology. Congratulations on your acceptance!! Our bio program here is awesome (and that’s the truth!). The biology department faculty is beyond friendly and always willing to have us join in on their endeavors in and out of our class time. This year, I am actually doing research twice a week in a lab with my biology department adviser… We are examining the genes involved with the temperature-dependent sex determination in sea turtles and finding some pretty interesting things that we will be presenting to the rest of the department at the end of the semester.
As far as classes and labs go, the labs in the biology building are pretty newly renovated with new lab benches and chairs and have all of the newest equipment required for research in the lab. The class sizes are fairly small, most of my lab classes have about 15-20 students in them, allowing for a great relationship with the professors.
I have a lot of friends who are doing the Health Science major and have only heard good things from them about it. Unfortunately, I only have experience on the biology end of the spectrum but I would definitely suggest attending one of our upcoming Open Houses or Admitted Student Days, as we offer special sessions where you can actually meet with professors from the biology and health science departments, hear more specifics about the programs, and check out our labs and classrooms for yourself. I hope this helped and that we will see you on campus soon!!

Thanks Courtney! I want to study Pre-dentistry while majoring in Biology. Im considering attending the next ASD event too. But I would like to know more about the programs I would have to take to study Pre-dentistry in Hofstra and how to switch my major.
