Anyone shine some light on Hofstra's pre-med program or anyone who wants to major in biology?

You may be interested in video interviews we have done with Hofstra bio majors and professors. Students and professors have taken trips to the Galapagos and are doing cutting edge research on molecular biology.

We have the video playlist on our Bio page: [Biology - Hofstra College of Liberal Arts & Sciences - Hofstra University](Biology - Home | Hofstra University)

Thanks for the info! But I was hoping to hear from actual students haha. On a side note, when are the financial aid packages sent out?

Hey there, my name is Courtney and I am a senior here at Hofstra majoring in biology. Our bio program here is awesome (and that’s the truth!). The biology department faculty is beyond friendly and always willing to have us join in on their endeavors in and out of our class time. This year, I am actually doing research twice a week in a lab with my biology department adviser… We are examining the genes involved with the temperature-dependent sex determination in sea turtles and finding some pretty interesting things that we will be presenting to the rest of the department at the end of the semester.
As far as classes and labs go, the labs in the biology building are pretty newly renovated with new lab benches and chairs and have all of the newest equipment required for research in the lab. The class sizes are fairly small, most of my lab classes have about 15-20 students in them, allowing for a great relationship with the professors.
For the pre-med program, your adviser will let you know exactly which classes to take to help fill all of the requirements to be able to apply to a medical program upon graduation. I would definitely suggest attending one of our upcoming Open Houses or Admitted Student Days, as we offer special sessions where you can actually meet with professors from the biology department, hear more specifics about the program, and check out our labs and classrooms for yourself. I hope this helped and that we will see you on campus soon!!
