Changing school once ceepted

Hi I am currently accepted to the CAS but have wondered if I should transfer to the NYU Stern business school. Does anyone know:

Is this possible?
What is required?
Does it require 1 additional year in school to capture courses?

It’s one year. Internal transfer to Stern is pretty competitive. I don’t know details, sorry.

It’s possible, but you have to stay in your current school for 1 year. At the transfer orientation last semester I think there was 1 or 2 internal transfers out of about 50 for the sophomore class.

@AoDay:
Do you mean 50 transfers mostly from outside of NYU?
1 or 2 internal transfers from all NYU schools or just to Stern?
I wonder how many applied?

It is possible but quite competitive. You would have to do very well your 1st year and then try applying I believe. But you could major in econ in CAS which is pretty close to what you’ll be learning at Stern.

I’ve been wondering this as well. Now I have another question. What if we got accepted for a specific major, but we wanted to switch? How can I go about doing that???

You’re not bound to the major and NYU does not make admissions decisions based on major.

"But you could major in econ in CAS which is pretty close to what you’ll be learning at Stern. "

But Stern graduates have better employment opportunities than CAS (econ)?

“NYU does not make admissions decisions based on major.”

Are you saying Stern admission is the same as CAS or youre talking within a school?
Once admitted, do I need to stay with CAS for a year even though school year has not even started? I cannot appeal that I made a mistake in my major (aka school)? I do have very good stats.

Im pretty sure when they say “based on major” they mean majors not schools. CAS ans Stern are not schools. Majors are within the school you applied to.

Anyway… Does anyone know anything about transfering into Gallatin?

Major does not equal school.

Transferring into Gallatin isn’t that hard, they are very transfer-friendly.

@elan

You can try calling admissions and asking, but I’m pretty sure you’re bound for a year to CAS. They do this to prevent people from applying to “easier” NYU schools and then transferring to Stern, therefore bypassing the Stern admissions committee.

You have the opportunity to change your majors until your junior year typically which is when you begin taking major specific courses for Stern at least. The CAS economic department is highly ranked as well as Stern’s. I’m not completely sure but I believe CAS econ follows a more theoretical curriculum while Stern’s is more political. Also, CAS provides a more liberal arts education and requires you to take more credit hours to complete the major I believe.
Stern econ does carry a brand name with it, and you do get additional benefits as a student. It is also very easy to double major or take on a few minors following Stern’s requirements.
If you are not extremely confident in your application as a freshman and really want to get into NYU I would apply to CAS instead. If you have other schools that you would not mind attending in case you get rejected, I would apply to Stern. Both departments have very good econ programs, but if you could pick either one without risk I would go with Stern.

I wanted to be premed so I went into CAS but I took my first econ class in school and I like it so I’m thinking of Stern…however I got accepted to CAS…

Anything I could possibly do to go to Stern? Wait a year in CAS and apply?

If you like Econ also consider CAS has an econ major…although if you want to transfer to Stern you’ll have to wait a year and try.
