Changing states before senior year...

Hello all, DD is a rising senior and likely NMSF. Her score in our state was high enough to qualify if past patterns hold. She got a good SAT score and her grades are all A’s so everything looks good. However, my husband just landed a nice job back in our “home” state. The girls are excited about moving back home and finishing high school with the folks they started kindergarten with. I’m a little concerned because of the NMF process. Does anyone have experience with this? What steps should I take, pitfalls to avoid, etc.? What needs to be done when?

We are moving from a school that has more than a dozen Finalists each year to one that has a Finalist every now and then. I’m afraid she will slip through the cracks and we will lose out. She is only looking at schools that offer great merit aid for NMF’s (UA and other SEC schools). I do know that her qualification is based on the state in which the test was taken. Her score is borderline for the new state- could go either way. Thanks for any insight. The move has happened so quickly and I am scrambling to find us a place to live, register for school (starts in 18 days!!), sell our house, pack, and so on!

Checking back in. The move went well and DD loves her new high school. She did make NMF and the school counselor handled everything. It was a seamless process. She was one of only two NMSF at the school and they were all very excited for her. In the end, she chose UGA so all of the stress didn’t matter. They don’t give any money for NMF, but she will get in state status and the Hope.

wonderful outcome! congrats to your D.
