Changing to/from the school of engineering

How hard is it to change from a non school of engineering major to a school of engineering major? How hard is it the other way round?

Since the engineering majors are impacted, you have to complete a certain number of pre-reqs and then apply into them, as a continuing undergraduate. How many students they accept depends on how much room they have in the major. If you’re applying as a freshman, you can list an impacted major as your first choice, and they will decide based on your high school grades and test scores whether or not to admit you as an engineering major. If you don’t get in as an incoming freshman, you can apply again after completing the pre-reqs (and the majors should have info about this on their department websites), and then I believe they take mostly your GPA or grades in those classes into account when admitting you.

If you want to switch to any non-impacted major, then you can do it online and it just takes a couple clicks. It’s really easy to switch your major at UCSD, unless the major you want to switch into is impacted. That’s the only time that they restrict the number of students in a major.
