Chapman Class of 2018 EA

My application status says moving forward to decision. Does anybody else have that? It also said that the file was incomplete because this year’s grades we not available yet. When I called, they said that it was normal, but it hasn’t changed yet. Does anybody else’s say this?
-thanks

ray626 - I read somewhere on admissions’ tumblr or twitter that housing applications start sometime in early March. The webadvisor ID that you got when you first applied to Chapman is the ID that stays with you upon acceptance.

That’s very sad that there were so many rejections on here. Film production is just crazy competitive. Did anyone get offered their second choice?

Been lurking on this thread for a while. My S applied EA for Film Production and is still waiting to hear. His status finally changed to Decision Reached on 1/17 . No denial email yet, but no acceptance packet either. The three day weekend with no mail on Monday is its own brand of torture. He’s calm; I’m not.

I would think that’s a good sign. Surely he would have gotten an email by now. Good luck to him! Is Chapman his first choice? Has he heard from any other schools? Curious what other schools all these talented kids applied to.

Thanks, mrssoffel. Trying to read the tea leaves is a little tricky. The Chapman Tumblr now says it can be 5 to 10 days between the ‘decision reached’ and the denial email. S is actually on a gap year. He graduated last spring and took an ‘athletic deferment’ at a school in Colorado. (Recruited Soccer player waiting for a roster spot to open up.) But his focus changed over his senior year and through the summer and fall. He did a lot of film/media/art/photography in HS- along with sports- but the film & photography started to be more interesting than the sports. He’s spent his time off working as a valet at a fancy hotel ( very LA) , building a photography website and shooting/editing You Tube stuff, mainly of fast cars and actions sports. He decided to apply to one true film school this fall to pursue cinematography. He loved Dodge/Chapman and he would be able to play soccer there, so that’s the only place he put in an application. If it doesn’t work out, he’ll study film, play soccer and wear long underwear in Colorado. I’d just like to have one firm answer- between the soccer recruiting starting sophomore year, the application process his senior year and the gap year- it’s been a LONG process.

I feel your pain! Wishing him the best of luck!

For those interested in Chapman’s Conservatory of Music, this was on Chapman’s FB today:
[Professor wins Grammy nod with a recording of music by avant-garde composer John Cage](Professor wins Grammy nod with a recording of music by avant-garde composer John Cage | Chapman Newsroom)

Still no email or application packet for S for EA Film Production. Decision reached 1/17. Chapmantumblr now very vague on timing. Anyone else still in limbo?

My daughter just got a call from Chapman admissions to say film school is full n they aren’t taking anyone else!

My status just changed to Decision Reached. Needless to say, I’m not uncrossing my fingers until I get that golden ticket. (Hopefully)

Accepted - Film Production - Fall 2014

Received a letter in the mail yesterday! I visited Chapman last summer
and it’s quite amazing in terms of academics and their film program.

Here is my application video, inspired by “Hot Fuzz” :

<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube;

congratulations, zoltron! you’re right, Chapman’s dodge school is pretty amazing and you’re going to really enjoy it - the faculty, your peers; hitting the ground running I think is the best part.

Have all the film production acceptances gone out? At this point is the best to hope for being wait listed?

MassAnon - it is no fun being a film production applicant this year because of the wait :confused: Just know that if you do get in, it was all worth it. And if you don’t, it had nothing to do with your talent or potential – there are just not enough spots for all the talent that applied to Chapman this year. Here’s what Chapman’s tumblr had to say yesterday about film production admissions:

Q: When did the last film production acceptances go out? At this point is the best to hope for a wait list decision if I haven’t heard yet? How many days does it take to send the rejection e-mail?
Anonymous

A: Still going out as far as we know. We’ll hopefully have an update on Monday. You would receive a packet in the mail or an email about 7-10 days after a decision is reached.

bigmamabear:

Thanks for starting and hosting the stream. It has been very helpful.

My D just received her acceptance letter on Saturday to film production after having a “Decision Reached” late Tuesday evening. Tension was very high, but worth the wait. Social Media is a blessing and curse with the instant updates but need to wait. For those still waiting, at least you know some positive decisions were still going out last week.

So now we have to start deciding on programs. She has been accepted to LMU, Emerson and Chapman. Still waiting to here from CalArts, UCLA and USC - although those are less likely due to even stronger competition. If anyone has an opinion, feedback or comparison they would like to share on the various film production programs, it would be very useful.

In the way of background, my D is very much into collaborative efforts, and sees each shoot as building new “families.” She does like to try new things, but likes to do heartfelt stories with a unique twist. Her experience is extensive from time at the teen NYFA program, High school film classes and doing aerial video.

Daddyeo. Congrats to your D!! We are still waiting to hear. The wait is agonizing, but it’s good to hear there are still some + decisions. My D did NYFA also and had an amazing experience that really solidified her wanting to study film.

I just heard back and got accepted into the film production program! Here’s my video I submitted if anyone is interested. <a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube;

Congrats to all that got in. My daughter got her rejection e-mail last night and was very disappointed. At least the wait is over though… that was excruciating…checking the post and e-mail daily for a week. Waiting to hear from other US schools as well as the UK. Hoping for some better luck with them and not such an excruciating wait.

Congratulations to Daddyeo and Pstills! Daddyeo - the best way to decide is to have your D visit her top two schools (again). There are things that are going to be important to her and to you (I’m thinking tuition, traveling expenses) - see which school is closest to meeting all those needs/wants. The only thing I’ve heard that is negative about UCLA’s program is that the film production major doesn’t start filming until the junior year. Don’t know if this is still true, but this would not stop a resourceful student from making movies outside of the classroom.

MassAnon - ahhh, I feel the pain! It is a terrible wait, worse for parents than for our children, maybe?? However, there’s still good news to look forward to as other schools make decisions. Best wishes to your daughter!
