Chapman University Early Decision for Fall 2022 Admission

I think any ECs that show your interest in film are great. Summer filmmaking program perhaps? Film club at school. Any award show’s entered etc. I think the creative supplement is very important. Is your student a Junior?

Just got in for regular decision!

I just got in on a regular decision, Business Administration. I was deferred for the early action. There was no mention of any scholarship money in the notification letter, is that to be expected or am I not getting anything? Please let me know.

On their website, they specifically state that Merit Scholarships are awarded with offer of admission.

But it is less clear when they notify candidates about multiple other awards they offer (Need-Based Grants, Departmental/Talent Awards, Mission-Driven Awards.)

Yes, any merit money would be included with the letter as an attachment, I believe.

Thanks

My son had been deferred from EA as well but then admitted in early Feb without merit. Doesn’t seem he’ll be able to attend as a result. Chapman was a high target for him but was likely his #1 choice, so it is disappointing!

My son got in EA with no merit. We then wrote an appeal letter and about a month later he was awarded the Hesperian scholarship. This will make enough of a financial difference to allow him to attend Chapman. So it’s definitely worth a try!!

If you don’t mind answering … Was there a change in circumstances - higher GPA, etc.?

No change. We just let them know he’d received merit with all of his other acceptances and let them know those amounts, and asked if they’d re-evaluate his application (which they did). We were very pleasantly surprised it worked as no merit was going to take Chapman out of the running. His weighted GPA is 4.25 and his SAT was 1310.

Thank you!

How much is the Hesperian scholarship? My daughter also received merit aid, but not enough. If she were to get more it could make the difference. It did not occur to me to appeal. I’m glad I came across your post.

I should also say - I am really surprised with a 4.25 GPA they did not offer it in the first place.

The Hesperian $12k/year. Wish it were more, but so much better than $0!!!

I agree it’s surprising with that GPA that you weren’t offered a scholarship in the first place.

My daughter was accepted last week for psychology. We are in Seattle, planning to go to the regional admitted student event April 4th. It is her top choice right now, she will go there unless she happens to get in to UCLA or USC.
