Chapman University vs. University of Arizona

Hi everyone, this is my first post so sorry if someone has already started a thread comparing these two schools.

I've received all my acceptances/rejections from colleges and I need to make my final decision soon so that I can get housing. I am between Chapman and University of Arizona. At Chapman my major is Health Sciences and at U of A it is biology, as I am planning on becoming a surgeon. I toured both campuses, and although very different, I loved both of them. Chapman is expensive, but this is expected since it is a private school. U of A, also has a pretty high tuition for out of state students but I received a 12k (per year) scholarship from them. Which is better overall? I'm looking for somewhere with competitive academics (I plan on going to medical school), diversity, and student involvement. All in all I just want somewhere that I will enjoy for the next 4 years, and leave with a competitive degree.

Your responses are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Are the costs for either of the schools doable?

Do you like bigger or smaller schools?

Just to clarify both prices are doable.

As for size of schools, until I toured Chapman I thought for sure that I wanted to go to a big school. However coming from a small private high school (600 kids), Chapman is big in my opinion. Compared with all of the schools I toured I “saw myself” at both campuses.

I would choose Chapman if I were you. It’s a better school academically, plus (IMO) the location is better. Chapman is much smaller than A of U, but is still considered pretty big- double the size of your high school. Chapman also is in a suburban environment, though it’s still located near a large city, unlike UA which is in a urban environment- what’s your take on that?

Chapman has the weather and God. UA has partying and a scholarship. GL with that one.

Thank you all so much for the advice so far. Weather isn’t a huge concern to me, being that I’m from California. I welcome the chance to live in a different state like Arizona, but Chapman does seem to have its advantages. With that being said I’ve decided that Chapman will be stronger academically. How do the names of the schools compare when getting into medical/graduate school? Also how are they socially? Are fraternities more involved at either of the campuses? How are they with parties? I also need somewhere that I won’t be bored for the next four years.
