It's a bad idea to try to learn history from movies. Che Guevara came from an upper middle class family, failed at everything he did (including being a Doctor), was a mass murderer (sent hundreds of people to the firing squads without trial), and based his philosophy of class struggle on hate.

Che failed.
He based his entire plan on gaining popular support, then tried to start a revolution in an area where he couldn't speak the same language as the population...
It was an excellent example of how NOT to win a revolution.

So, for some reason, people who have no idea who he was, what he advocated, or whether he suceeded buy T-shirts of him. Does this make sense?

I will never understand why people looking for a hero are drawn to the Che...

I loved the Motorcycle Diaries

But, folks, capitalism doesn't really work either... because there are always corrupt, greedy people who ruin everything. We can see that in America's current economic status: fail.

I agree with you, but remember, the Austrian School believes that the best economic system is based on imperfect capitalism. I disagree with that, but it's a position against which it's hard to argue.

I find it extremely ironic that a man who opposed capitalism and the free market to the extreme now is a big part of it as his face adorns tshirts, coffe mugs, and all sorts of other consumer products.

can we please get past the che merchandising? here's a little tip for those who missed the clue train, WE KNOW THE IRONY OF IT!

Capitalism = freedom.

capitalism = corporate greed

Capitalism is an economic system, not a social one. So freedom can't be associated with capitalism.

And Foreman, I agree.

capitalism freedom = drug and alcohol abuse (not that i have a problem with that, though some might ;) ), high crime rate, decline in social values to obtain financial benefit

i'd hit 10char

thanks for the contribution poseur, even though im not sure what you mean, lol :)

High crime rate? Drugs? Social Values?

Do you know what happens in Communist countries? Everything about your identity is taken away. You want to say bad things about wiretapping now? Communists have done this for a long time. Communists take everything you work hard for away.

Communist leaders have always been murderers. Foreman, you have already admitted you are an ignorant fool in these matters, and it shows because you only rehash whatever that other idiot says.

So kindly FO/KY.

I love being called an idiot. It always gives me warm fuzzies. =]

You must feel warm and fuzzy a lot.

capitalism has it's own share of problems as well: imperialism, poverty, oppression, exploitation, abuse of human rights

and you don't need to be a ***** about it when responding to me

Abuse of human rights-Communism has it as well.
Exploitation-Communism tries to throw over governments with lies so check here.
Oppression-All communist countries oppress their people, whereas you don't hear of oppression here in America, Britain etc.
Poverty-Most Communist countries are extremely poor with high rates of inflation, only after the communist governments are overthrown does the healing process begin and people start to get money back.

Sooooo I guess you have no idea what you are talking about, do you?

fromthesouth, stop being such a d----- about it. Every modern economical system and political party consists of greedy, murderous people. Communists are just a bit more open then others.

Let's look at good ol' America.
* Abuse of human rights - Guantanamo Bay's got it going on. How do you think the government treats known terrorists?
* Exploitation - CEOs are bankrupting their companies and being rewarded with multi-million dollar golden parachutes. Have any of your dad's friends been laid off yet?
* Oppression - oppression takes on many forms. Slavery in America existed for some 250 years. Note that the US was still a democratic, capitalistic state..
* Poverty - communism isn't the only reason for poverty. Check out downtown NY and you'll see what I mean. Not on a large enough scale? Look at other third-world countries; they're not all communistic but people are still starving.

Sooooo I guess you have an incomplete idea of what you are talking about, don't you?

Capitalism = freedom.

I don't find much freedom in being expected to work 40 hours a week, every week of my adult life, lest I starve.
