Cheap hotels near Harvard

I'm going to an event at Harvard. What are some cheap hotels (< $100) near the university?

Thanks.

Harvard Sq. T station. Those benches are quite comfy!

I think the rate at nearby Harvard Square Hotel is about $100/night...

check out orbitz, travelocity, expedia, etc.

You will have trouble finding a hotel in that range near Harvard. At what time of year are you going?

Harvard Square Hotel is closer to $200

Ah...my memory is failing me. I just checked...when I stayed at Harvard Sq Hotel it cost me $160 for the night.

Thanks for the responses. It's too expensive for me.
Change of plans--I'll be staying with a student I know.

detritus, are you debating at the harvard tourny

For future reference, the Days Inn by the football stadium in Allston can be as low as $89/night. It's about a mile walk to the square, or you can take the city bus. It also has free parking.

Hanna - Have you stayed at the Days? What's your take on its desirability?

The Days Inn Hotel is not in a great location, more like a strip mall area, on Soldiers Field Road the other side of the river from Harvard. It would be a LONG walk in bad weather. The Days Inn (NOT the Days Inn Hotel), which is the cheaper of the two, is even farther away, in an even more strip mallish area, on the same road. Neither one is directly on a bus line, you would have to walk to get a bus.

Check out the youth hostels. They're around $32 per bed. My mother and I stayed at one near Fenway park, and we used the subway/bus system to get to Harvard.

I stayed at the Days by the football field during a reunion last November. I thought it was pretty good for what you paid. But I don't mind a good walk, even if it's cold. I took cabs back to the hotel at night; it's a five-minute ride. The rooms are big and clean, but the hallways are pretty run down and you may have a parking lot view.

Radison Cambridge is a great choice, but it is about 2 miles away from Harvard Square.

Funny, when I left the Harvard square hotel at night and took the subway to downtown Boston, one of the first buildings I saw while walking aimlessly was the Radisson.

I stayed in the Days last year for Parents Weekend. It was fine. The walk to the Yard takes about 20 minutes.

There is a Double Tree that is about a mile away from Harvard on Soldier's Field Rd. that has a shuttle that will drop you off right in the middle of Harvard Square, or you can walk there along the Charles river.

This should be helpful

Try making a bid for a room at Priceline.com (Their "name your own price" feature). You don't get to pick the specific hotel, but you do get to choose a "star rating" and a price. Anything in Cambridge can't be too far from Harvard.

I actually stayed at the Cambridge Hilton last night for something like $45 (around $60 after tax). It's not the best location for getting to Harvard, but the hotel has a free "shuttle" (one of the parking guys driving you in a minivan) with access to Harvard or the T. Also only a $10 cab ride, or a longish (25 min?) walk.

Staying with a student is a good idea though.
