I was wondering does anyone have any suggested hotels they recommend when visiting BU ? I know the school lists some on its site. But having never been there…

Here's a thread called "Hotels in Boston."

Hotel Commonwealth is pretty much on BU campus... but you mgiht be able to find cheaper at another hotel.

Doubletree Suites is right across the river on the Cambridge/Somerville line. It's not all that cheap, but they are small suites and very nice.

When we registered BU gave us a list of hotels with a BU rate. It may have been on their web site. The Commonwealth offered the BU rate for one of our visits but it was "sold out" for the other. It is a very European style boutique hotel right on campus near the bookstore.

We stayed at another hotel looking over the river about one block over the BU Bridge so we could walk to anything. They too had a BU rate. The name escapes me but I think it was a known chain.

I have stayed in Hotel Commonwealth several times and its a great hotel. It is a bit pricy, but if you have the money i reccomend it.

Here's a copy and paste of some previous info on College Confidential on Boston hotels/B and B's. We have stayed at the Hotel Commonwealth and loved it. Hubby stayed once and the Buckminster and said never again.

Oasis Guest House (22 Edgerly Road, Boston)

Best Western Terrace Motor Lodge (1650 Commonwealth Ave., Brighton)
Days Inn (1800 Soldiers Field Rd, Brighton)

These two would be among the least expensive ... a couple mile drive and not in a tourist area ... but I would bet quite a few bucks cheaper.

The BU rate at the Hotel Commonwealth made the cost quite manageable. I'd recommend it either way and the restaurant is excellent too. You are right on Comm. Ave. so its a good way to get a feel for the campus life. From most hotels you can take public transportation over to BU so you don't have to worrry about driving and it is a good way to get a glimpse of Boston. Cambridge has any outstanding hotels too.
